New corolla xli crashed on jail road lahore

A few days back at 6:30 am in the morning a driver of a new xli was taking the advantage of the empty road and was in excessive speed near khana farhang iran when his car lost control he applied breaks but of no use. he smashed it into the light pole. His hair got stuck in the front screen and rescue 1122 was called to help him. There were two other passengers recieving minor injuries. Responce of 1122 was quick. Corollas breaks really suck i think they want their cars to be sold in a manner that people crash their old ones very bad toyota. I own a vti 2004 its breaks are magic.

Yea the brakes on Corolla really suck. Its a major design flaw. Ive replaced the tyres and rims in my Xli with 205/65/15 configuration and still it sways. Also another flaw is the front pillars, especialy the drivers side one. They block the driver's view when looking sideways. Still we love our ROLLAs =)

i am sorry to inform u byr here are some facts

i own a xli 2006 model,,the tyres are stock general tyres and its brakes are very very good,,,

the second bad thingh which u have done is to have OVER SIZED TYRES in ur car,,best size will be 185/65/R14 as specified in manual.

the third which i want everyone to know is that i was on 2 day trip to Murree,,Nathia gulley,,,,,,, my friend and me drove the car and it worked FINE,,,no problem of skidding or brakes on Hilly roads,,we were driving quite fast,but car was in controll like anythingh

yes i agree with u ,,the front pillars on driver side do block the view,,but not that much

time to stop criticising the brakes and ride of xli plz.

i hope your confidence stays the same way as i do not want u to get harmed in any way. May Allah be with u all the time.
as i also have a corolla to drive for last one year, i can tell u by expereince that this car needs to be driven and stopped cautiously. Emergency braking is a nightmare in this car.
I know u have been driving it cautiously so far because of all the things u listened here at PW and because your car is new.
This corolla does not permit free driving with no worries, thats the bottom line.

First it's not Xli, may be a GLI. Second it could be any other car. Drivers fault, overspeeding etc can result into this accident even if it is a merc yaar. Also see that despite frontal collission the cabin is intact. So better cabin safety. I have never seen any Corolla skidding on roads around me like the people are saying here.

note the road, carefully from pics and tell me what is max speed one can attend on it without loosing control in any new car,, and then calculate back a safe speed,, on which you can garantee on " no accident " regardless one has to brake hard in case of pedestrain crossing or whatever.

I agree with him.

It's not the problem of car totally. it's depends on driver's skill too.

any car without ABS & ESC (Electronic Stability Control) can go out of control if the driver is not skillful.

Toyota Corolla has braking problems, but good drivers can manage it properly.

New Corolla Saloon is equipped with ABS which avoids skiddings etc.

Driver may play more than 50% role in any accident.

topracer...did you took these pics yourself? if you did..i wanna ask whether there were any skid marks on the road or not? that will tell whether the guy was a dope or he really did apply the brakes.

its not the car's fault...speeding kills...from the pics..it is clear that the guy was at least doing above 80KM or something. I do agree with some of you that corolla brakes are not great but it is not the car's fault at all.....the brakes may suck but they dont fail....

why the hell you guys dont complain to the govt. or indus motors if the brakes are really faulty?

szuberi sahib i live next to the location of the accident the car was at the sppeed of 140 to160km/h and he applied the breaks 50 ft from the pole the car changed its direction when the breaks were applied. the skid marks were a curve shape.
