Mahindra's XUV500 launched at a price tag of RS10.80 lacs
Global auto major Mahindra and Mahindra has unveiled one of its most ambitious products in recent times - the XUV500. Priced attractively, this global SUV (sports utility vehicle) is likely to set a new benchmark for competition.
The base model, called the W6, has a price tag of Rs. 10.8 lakh while the W8 variant has been priced at Rs. 11.95 lakh. The high end W8 4x4 (four wheel drive) variant sports a price tag of Rs. 12.88 lakh. Mahindra's D segment crossover SUV will meet head-on with Tata Aria, Skoda Yeti, Ford Endeavour and the very popular Toyota Innova.
Developed by team of 200 engineers, the car is leaps and bounds ahead of older Mahindras and is the most expensive offering by the company so far. The SUV took 4 years to develop. More than simply a new launch, the XUV500 is the most significant new product for the company since the Scorpio was launched a decade back.
XUV500 will be manufactured at Chakan plant and will be exported to several countries in South East Asia, Western Europe and Africa beginning with South Africa, where it plans to have a joint dealership with Ssangyong.
Pawan Goenka, President Automotive & Farm Equipment at M&M said the company has invested Rs. 650 crore in XUV500 (excluding investment in Chakan).
