Toyota today unveiled the Yaris TS — a high-performance version of its compact four-door hatch. The car was first previewed in concept form in February. It is powered by a 130 hp 1.8-litre petrol engine with Dual VVT-i. Peak horsepower is achieved at t 6,000rpm and maximum torque of 173Nm at 4,400rpm. Working with a five-speed manual gearbox, it gives zero to 62 mph acceleration in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph.
The Yaris platform has been adapted to give the TS handling to match its increased power and performance. Modifications to the suspension and steering make spirited driving more enjoyable. At the front it has a black mesh grille with a clear TS badge, darkened headlamp surrounds and a deeper bumper with integrated fog lights. The rear bumper has also been redesigned, with an integrated chrome-finished sports exhaust tailpipe and fog lights. The rear lamp clusters adopt an LED-style design. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard and the body gains deep side skirts and a roof spoiler.

T-Sport
The Toyota Yaris T-Sport was launched in 2007. It was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show and is powered by the new 130 bhp (97 kW) 1.8 L dual VVT-i petrol engine, which can reach 100 km/h in under 10 seconds. The T-Sport features 17 inch alloy wheels, a mesh grille at the front, a redesigned bumper at the rear, deep side skirts and a tail spoiler. It also features redesigned headlights and taillights. As in the previous T-Sport, there are extra rear lights on the bumper.
Intelligent Package
The "Intelligent Package", was first available in the beginning April 2005 and uses Toyota's "Intelligent Idling Stop System" to achieve the highest fuel efficiency level within the class. Using a lithium-ion battery, the engine is automatically put into the idling stop state when the car comes to a stop. The engine is subsequently smoothly restarted when the brake is released. As a result, this version of the Vitz has achieved a fuel efficiency level of 3.9 L/100 km (60 mpg U.S.), an 8.5% improvement over standard versions. This makes it the most fuel efficient car in Japan, excluding mini-vehicles and hybrid vehicles.
