Nissan B14 2.0D

Salam, I recently purchased my first diesel B14 (1998) (from Pakwheels) from here in Karachi. After spending around 50K (not small amount) I recently came across this thread and realize real problems are still there like getting timing right, fans to auto (glow plugs doing ~3 seconds), thermostat check (needle doesn't start in middle), head bolts (older ones were repaired after head phase) etc.

My recent average is of around 9 km/liter, although starts up fine but car lacks power -- engine starts complaining when even going up to 80km/h in 4th gear. Basically just doesn't feel right and now after reading this thread I now understand, it's the timing.

I really want to save this car from further engine damage, and also my wallet so would appreciate someone who could please point me to a reliable, honest mechanic/shop in Karachi who could at least fix my timing, and perhaps wiring too.

1. I checked Diesel Power Systems website, looks like they're no longer in business.

3. My own mechanic is AFAIK honest but he doesn't seem to be knowledgable here

Why diesel ? Go for engine swap and put the petrol engine in your car and forget about problems.

Hhhmmmm, har ek ki apni choice hai ... I like petrol. I have Nissan B12 1986 model and I am also newbie to old cars. I recently put QG18DE in it, the car is awesome giving me 11km/l in local and 15-16 km/l on highway and with some extra power as of 1800cc vvti.

Just had head phased and I recall mechanic mentioned valves were changed so on that part should be okay. Want to get timing done, for both belt and pump. I know there are instructions in this thread but thought could get directions to some mechanic who's honest and reliable and does the right thing like Xulfiqar.

Many people are looking for mechnic according to Xulfiqar bhai's standard from years but abi tak aisa nai mila, so in the end you have to do it urself or instruct mechanic to do exactly as directed.

For wiring issue u can consult my electrician Shahid - 03003574073. Many pakwheelers have been to him and are satisfied. He's in gulshan block 5.

You know the engine you have gives around 15-16km/L in local and 18-20km/L on long. Im a X user of this lovely engine.

One more thing, the person who have said, its timing, doesn't have any knowledge about cars. If the timing of diesel engine gets out, that means the valve will get damaged right away due to the greater torque in the engine. So timing never gets out, it's fixed with a timing belt. What i see is a clogged, nozzles or fuel pump or poor air fuel ratio setting. Someone might have played with that too.

when we discuss timing a diesel - we are not discussing the valve timing (its assumed that such basic knowhow is already executed), we are discussing the injection pump timing. its very fiddly work and almost never works on "haath ka andaaza" technique. you need a dial guage to see the plunger movement in the high pressure head of the pump.

yes - if you have a medium level advance tool kit, some room, the dial gauge setup and know-how - it can be done.

how are you going to set A/F controller here in a mechanically injected diesel? - please do tell where such A/F controller is on a Nissan CD20

And if you slightly loosen it, the level of smoke starts decreasing and with your knowledge and engine response and smoke you can do a best setting of it. I'll post the picture too.

It usually has a rubber cap on top of it. You can access it by removing that rubber cap.

Thats the fuel load screw - if you mess with it without a test bench melted pistons can result too. There is a reason its actually locked and sealed out. Its setup on the pump test rig and then locked out. - some even have a wire locked through it.

too much fuel in a diesel will shoot the EGT - a bit too much specially under load at mid rpm and you can start burning stuff up.

Yes exactly that one, people say that never mess with it. But i did. Nothing happened in two years. Even i used to rev the car too highly. Anyways this engine is the best I've seen in 2.0D category.
