Salaam, researching into the import of a Nissan leaf EV from Japan. Clearing agents claim custom clearance isn't possible but I have seen some vehicles for sale here on Pakwheels.
Can anyone with relevant info post the latest EV related import policy?
Thanks.
Following up here. Finally got an answer and the answer is yes. A Nissan Leaf can be imported, duty for a 2020 (40 kwh) leaf is approx 35 lakhs at the time of this post.
All is good
But a nissan leaf has pretty bad battery life.
Does the second generation have this as well? Replacement in around 8 - 10 years? (not sure of cycle count)
8-10 years is with adequate normal drive cycle and moderate climate, in tropical condition with jammed traffic
Cut it in half
i'd suggest to pay a visit to seller and check for the vehicle clearance documents, 2 important things to check shipping date (arrival at port) & clearance date.
Since COVID 2019 and now the economic crunch, used car import & clearance is tricky.
I will self import this vehicle if I ever go about doing so - received this information from a clearing agent who specialises in vehicle clearing / have used before.
At least I now know EV import is an option compared to 1 crore + being demanded locally for the MG ZS EV and etrons in a different category altogether.
Whts duty on 62 kw battery model

@AkbarGr8 which procedure will you opt for importing this vehicle? Gift scheme or baggage? Do you have any immediate blood relative living abroad? If you're thinking to go for a traditional way, then passport charges will be very high.
Will be purchasing pp credentials. Tentative cost is 6-8 lakhs.
Currently only researching this car at the moment.
be careful with documentation. Dealers played foul and there are over 650 cars (2018 to date) rusting at port for which passport holders failed to provide the data for customs clearance.
That's right sir, customs clearance can be a significant obstacle to overcome as even a minor problem can cause your vehicle to be detained at the port. The person providing pp needs to prove 2 things:
Firstly, he must show a foreign source of income that is sufficient to justify the purchase of vehicle and transfer of funds to Pakistan to cover the customs duty payment.
Secondly, he must provide evidence of a consistent money trail by demonstrating that adequate remittances have been sent to his account or in account of his blood relative over the past year. This information is typically verified using a Proceed Realization Certification (PRC) issued by the bank.
