The bug was outside today as the doors had been trial fitted. Inside the shop, it was too cramped to put the doors on and test them with ease.


I came to know that every Saturday a platoon of sweepers comes to really clean the roadsides :).....so the bugs had to be moved!

The doors are on!

The LHS one shuts with ease though the B pillar still needs the graft with the striker plate for the door to lock into place.


The RHS one has been tied into place as the post 67 striker plate has not been cut out yet and the bottom door hinge is missing. Basit had taken a LHS bottom door hinge from me by mistake earlier. Today I delivered the correct RHS one so he can proceed to fit the door as it should be.

Look closely at the LHS door......the front hole for the outer doorhandle has been welded shut as the pre 59 icepick handles dont need this......

Had an electricity breakdown followed by dinner etc....

The rear fenders have been beaten into shape (or rather submission!!).......They look far better now.....I noticed later after offloading the pics onto my computer that the round holes for the towel rail support tubes have been opened up neatly....they had been welded shut....not bad.....

Found some more horror stories in the rear luggage area......we have a whole original panel off the donor 64 so we are in a position to graft in original Wolfsburg German steel in any places requiring the same......

Here is the donor panel, the rear luggage area off the 64 lying on the other project car at Basit Ustaad's......it is atop the post 68 front end taken off the bug....

Coming to another finer point in this rebuild.....

Was sipping cup after cup of "doodh patti" tea with Basit when the discussion turned towards nuts n bolts used on the cars.....Ustaad revealed some trade secrets!


On cars built to a high standard by him, he gets all the nuts/bolts/hardware and some parts galvanised. I was amazed to see the results on a stash he laid out in front of me to let me judge the result.........:o...

:o.....the discussion turned into an exam viva of sorts when Basit ustaad started to test me to identify each item that lay in this pile of small bits......... I managed to 'score' high, the exception being a couple of parts which are only visible when you do a body off.......in fact I scored better than the ustaad's son upon which the father was furious!!! He almost got a slap and was told to be shameful of himself

Some final products were shown to me installed...... I was amazed to see the fine detail these galvanized parts show on a finished car!

 Judge for yourself the end result and the potential of such detailed attention......

@Doc, keep in mind the rain is about to come. As the car is more open now, there are more places for the moisture to hide, even if the car is not in the open. And what of the powedercoating of the pans?? Buy some cheap vinegar to clean the suspension bits and start collecting walnut shells. You HAVE to get the car blasted. It deserves it.

this car has transformed already....from what I saw of it near Shifa and now...it looks very good.

Can you also help me in getting our VCCCP thread on pakwheels sorted out. I cant seem to see any messages after 5h July and there is no 'quick reply' option at the bottom. The one at the top does seem to work but I still cant see my posted message. I have informed the moderators but nothing has been done in 3 days

Hello all,

  Sorry for being away without a trace for these few days.......I must have mentioned somewhere that my elder bro is visiting Pakistan now, so that ties me up with various family gatherings, outings, shopping, activities etc etc.......


 On a positive note regarding this project, my brother's arrival means that a new batch of VW goodies has been added to the stash hidden for this car. All to be revealed in due course of time! :)


  I have only a few pics to post today.....not much progress Im afraid. The project is slowing down a bit it seems :(. Would do my best to visit the denter at my earliest and get things rolling faster.......
