 The wait would be a long one as this project would stretch since it would have many mini-projects associated with it. The good news is that the most difficult bit, the engine is ready to be bolted on.


 I did not realise what "taki top" meant until someone following this thread explained the origin!

@Doc, keep in mind the rain is about to come. As the car is more open now, there are more places for the moisture to hide, even if the car is not in the open. And what of the powedercoating of the pans?? Buy some cheap vinegar to clean the suspension bits and start collecting walnut shells. You HAVE to get the car blasted. It deserves it.

 Thanks for your concern...... The car was moved into the garage again the following day but was out a day later. I am hoping it would stay covered for all/most of the time. Rains are bad, especially the acid rains Karachi recieves as a first-of-the-season gift. We will try to make the most of any bad thing which happens..... :S


 I want to go for powdercoating of the whole floor but Basit is not keen. He had a complete floor powdercoated some time ago but the results were not good. Im confused. I have my own guy who does this work so Im hopeful of a better result.....


 That said, its not easy to let the whole floor go thru the stages involved. You need the item to sit in an acid bath for a good day or half........ This might damage any internal small parts or anything made out of alloys......I need a bit of research on this and feedback from people who have experience....


 I am keen on at least getting the two pan halves powdercoated and then welded onto the centre tunnel. Lets see......





The cheap vinegar is a thought. There was a thread somewhere on PWs showing the process. Simple effective and great.

@asadishaque this car has transformed already....from what I saw of it near Shifa and now...it looks very good. Can you also help me in getting our VCCCP thread on pakwheels sorted out. I cant seem to see any messages after 5h July and there is no 'quick reply' option at the bottom. The one at the top does seem to work but I still cant see my posted message. I have informed the moderators but nothing has been done in 3 days

The car has uptil now recieved...what can I say... a "body-top" resto only. The real battle begins when we attack the bottom end....... thats where the real headquarters of the tinworm army is located!


I am sorry I cant be of much help as regards the problems you face in posting on the VCCCP thread. I believe someone is uploading viruses or such on threads here......we had some issues with the VWCOP thread which all started when someone from Sweden posted a funny looking nonsense script. The person posted the same script on the VCCCP thread lately and thats when I noticed the thread slow down. Im not a computer geek (unfortunately) so cant give any pointers on how to handle the problem.


I will try to forward your problem the mods but do not expect quick action seeing that you have already gone that route.

An original VW jack is being used to coax the fender into shape...... its applied on the front beam for support.

The RHS front fender's top. Another problem here........

These are 1967 vintage fenders. The hole for the indicator is at the wrong place for a 59. It is supposed to be further ahead  (more towards the front).....something like I marked on this picture in red.......

  Its not a bend but something in the pic......however I am not happy with the overall symmetry the front presents. It does need tweaking......

 I plan to test fit the headlights once the final denting is done to see how they look to check the symmetry.

Fortunately we have a 1963 beetle come into the garage for some work.....

It belongs to a good friend of mine and would serve as an ideal example to take measurements of for the correct fender indicator positions.

The LHS front fender has had another patch at the bottom where there was much rust damage. The piece is just welded on and needs much beating to bring it to the desired shape.

Notice the large gap between the fender rear and the bottom of the pillar. Here extensive repairs are needed to bring the pillar bottom to its original shape.

Google for it. There is a pdf file on the net. Someone had the same problem and made a sketch to locate the exact location.
