Just a quick question: can't you make card board cut outs for the shapes? If you find an orignal car (close to original will work too), request the owner the let you make card board cut outs to determine the curves and over shapes. That'll help you loads with finalising the "lines" on your car.

I'm not sure how many '59s you'll be able to find though.

The cardboard cutouts are a good idea.

 I am extremely lucky that a very original 63 bug is at the same garage now. And the owner is a friend, in fact the very 63 was bought after I had personally seen it. So we have nice live example in front.


 The holes are not difficult to copy as they lie in the same line only ahead by a few inches.

Some closeup shots to show how the rear apron clip has been grafted onto the main bodyshell. These were not seen before as the fenders were on when we saw it earlier....

I just went thru the thread again ........ and looked at all the pictures. There is a lot of grafting of material and a lot of welding being done on various parts. I believe this would help loose some of the flexibility in the car. I was wondering what you'd say to the fact that the finished frame will not have the same flexibility as an original one. (Ungrafted and unwelded)? SO in that case what are you going to do about the jack supports? Given the fact that only one jack support is available per side, the frame may not like the original support anymore and you might have to have additional/separate ones installed for the front wheels. If you intend to use the orignal jack and orignal jack support, I think some of the welded in joints may develop cracks and come off altogether and in the finished car they would present a serious problem. It would be very easy to have additional supports installed for the front wheels at this time. Just think about it.

your point got me thinking but then i had an idea. the jack will be on the floorpan (which is one piece) so there shoudln't be a huge issue as long as the body & frame are tightly bolted together since the floorpan will not flex much at all.

Have Basit paint the insides of the heater channels with rustproof BEFORE he welds them to the body. Once in place you will never see the insides of them again!

there is a (very toxic) way of geting to them as well. spray WD40 on the inside of the heat exchangers and put them on. the WD40 vapor will head into the channels and slowly bond to the walls.

however i should point out that you'll be dead in a few kilometers:P

Hello people!

Sorry to have kept you waiting for updates.


Had been busy with family as my elder brother was here from the US. Was off work and was giving all my time to bro and his activities.


Being off from work meant I was not getting to Basit ustaad's place as I usually did on my way back home.


 Storm guessed it right....rains did play havoc with the project and currently its in doldrums thanks to Basit's sons/apprentices getting sick on and off plus a lot of mess created post rains.


 Ill update some bits now.......
