Btw, My elder brother had visited in July from California too. He did not a get a single thing for me as I asked him not to. Entire stash of 'gifts' were for the bug :D

October 2009 begins.

Finally we see some major work being attended to!

Ive been unable to visit often as my new job keeps me busy and my workplace is near my home, at the opposite end of the city to the denters place.....

Dont have many pics to show this tech area being tackled.....

Heater channels being fabricated from scratch.......these are an integral part of beetle shell, giving strength and rigidity to the car.

Next visit, Im armed with my digi cam.

The body being made shiny once more..... :)

We had come to the mutual decision that its not a good idea to pull the body off the pan/floor as the rotten heater channels may cause the body to fold over and mess up all alignment.

Therefore the newly made heater channels were being welded in with the body attached to the floor. The whole thing works like a jig to keep everything aligned.

If you look closely, the front side has the original mesh like outlet. This was a piece grafted off the original pair of 67 heater channels I supplied for the project.

The inner portion has a steel pipe which would serve as a heater duct just like in the original set up.

Heater channels are not available new in Pakistan, sadly. The best I could find in Karachi, second hand was too rusty and weak to be used as a complete graft.

I did follow another bit of good advice from Romano and had the interior of this part coated up good with anti rust undercoat. Dont think I have saved pics of the process, but it was basically lots of black goo being fed into the interior of the channels....:P:P

Asad, as usual your updates are inspirational. the effort going into your resto are highly commendable and considering that the jobs are being done in PKi still think that hte finished product will be jaw dropping even on the samba forums.

so you never told me what that part was a few pages ago,... it's been driving me mad since then..
