Thanks for your input and good wishes.
For us Karachi folks the weather has in fact taken a turn for the worse. October brings us a second summer which is in fact hotter than the May-June season. It is quite uncomfortable out in the open sun. Anyway, not to be deterred by weather or any such thing now.
I do have a plan and what I think is required is to complete the car even if any or all odds are against me. I have collected more parts and extra savings all this while so I am in a better position. I still have to find a few bits which I shall try along the way but even if I dont, I shall complete the bug to its running and usable order. Even if some parts are missing or incorrect. I think I should take inspiration from Mohsin bhai, who's most projects are a defy-all-the-odds-and-circumstances kind :D
Time shall be a crunch however since I work full time, but lets see, where there's a will there must be a way. I have concluded that there is no such thing as a 'perfect opportunity'. At least not in my life!
The outline I have chalked is:
Take the body off the 'pan and do up the mechanicals, suspension, gear, et al. Then prep and paint before mating it to the body.
We may even work simultaneously on the body and pan, if available labor allows.
Engine was done ages ago so I am relaxed on that front since it would need just a light clean, firing up, bench testing and bolt on. Any issue, I have a backup engine to go in.
Wiring the car needs some serious homework as I have decided to take a slightly different route. Something with a bit of 'high altitude'. Wait for some surprises if my plan materializes.
Need suggestions from you at this stage. The primer has held up very well but there are a few areas where some surface rust has peeked. A couple of areas need a bit of minor denting too. I was thinking about using chemical stripper to bring the body back to bare metal and then prepping it afresh but people are suggesting we sand the current primer down till we reach metal. What do you say??
Lets see....as we go along I shall be posting pics and taking all the valuable input.
