mitsubishi used the mut protocol (which is not supported by old ELM327) and had an L line on pin 1 instead of 15 usually. So you will need to find a unit compatible with that.
obdlink MX works pretty nice but is not cheap, obdlink SX (red cable) works very nice but you need a laptop and an application on the laptop.
some cars are like this - e.g. the early rectangle lights baleno had the SSDL thing going on, most tools dont even have that function anymore as its literally obsolete.
for quick work on mitsi - you can use evoscan and its correct cable.
