I bought a new 2012 corolla altis( petrol) and its almost 5000 km ...which oil should i use (regular oil or semi synthetic or synthetic )? of which company ? and after how many kms would i need to change it at (3000 km ,4000 km or 5000 km )? thanx in advance

regular oil is mineral oil which can go upto 5000km, blended semi synthetic can b taken upto 6000km.....fully synthetic can be taken upto 7000-8000km depend on driving condition...........go for fully synthetic oil

sir,i recommend till 40000kms keep using original petron(20-50) and after 40000 kms change to zic A+ as far my research is concerned using fully synthetic is not recommended in new engines(your car is just 5000 kms driven), I also did same with my altis (its 1.8 2010) till 40k used petron after that switched to synthetic zic A+ car had done 70000 kms still running at its best.

i think using normal (mineral oil) change it at every 3500 kms and synthetic till 5000-6000kms

wat r u saying 40k km for oil change??:S my younger bro have Altis 1.6sr 2011 auto.....we were using petron 20w50 changed it to 5k km then 10k km from toyota....now i ve changed it to shell ultra 5w30 fully synthetic which gave us better fuel consumption n felt much lighter on acceleration....btw u r saying the opposite tht is not recommended for new engine which is totally wrong n biased...... i ve civic reborn oriel n guess wat i changed to shell ultra after 1k km....my civic running much better than few of my friends civic reborn who use mineral oil.....i wud say switch to any good reputable brand of oil in fully synthetic be it shell, caltex, liqui moly, mobil1 or Zic.....btw 20w50 is very thick compare to 5w30 or 5w40....fully synthetic can be change upto 7k-8k km

i know wat u meant but theres no such thing bout changing oil grade at 40k km...its all biased info....every new cars these days is using fully synthetic these days even honda is using Total quartz 7000 fully synthetic oil for 8th gen civic......synthetic oil is perfectly fine for new engine....plz stop spreading wrong info....btw Zic XQ or OW is fully synthetic while Zic A+ is semi sythetic

also fully synthetic oil for our Pak environment can go upto 7k -8000km.....in other countries it can go upto 12k km.....6k is very least for fully synthetic oil....i ve checked myself fully synthetic oil r still fine upto 7k km

by the way ... 20W-50 is too viscous (thick) for a new car...and is NOT a good idea to try it b4 at least 100k kilometers on the odo.

Always use semi-synthetic or fully synthetic motor oil in ur corolla. Mineral oils can never give u the kind of acceleration or fuel consumption which a modern synthetic-based oil can offer. Its a no-brainer. Ive been using shell helix (blue pack) semi-synthetic oil since 2002 on my SE Saloon and now since 2010 on my 1.8 Altis as well as new City and am very satisfied upto 5000 km.

they must have given u a user manual ... use it and put the recommended oil ... go to toyota motors and ask for the right oil than ask for the interval for next change

corolla is just a normal car not a performance car so why not go with the oem recommandations

Good to know about your new altis. Its good car.
Well I suggest as follows

For first 40K use fully Synthetic oils with viscosities as 0-20 or 5-30 or 0-40 (Exceptional case).
From 40K to 80K, Semi Syenthetics. Viscosities like 10-30.
From 80K to 130K, Semi Synthetics. Viscosities like 5/40 would be the best.
From 130K to 160K, Partially Synthetics. Viscosities like 15/40 would be the best.
From 160K onwards, use 20/50.

But instead of believing local companies (Caltex, Total, Shell, PSO, Toyota, Suzuki, etc.) plz choose good companies. And according to the availability in Pak. presently I feel PTT Performa is good company. Oil is being manufactured in Thailand and directly coming. Not being re-packed here.
SINOPEC is Chinese company but manufacturing oil in Singapore. Its not good.
Kixx, just ignore.
Liqui Moly & Mobil1 are the best, but cannot find the 100% Original here.

Where did you get the oil analysis done? Does this lab take oil samples from the general public? Do they offer a TBN test as well?

If anyone else reading this has done any oil analysis recently (in Pakistan), please tell the name of the lab, and a website/ any contact information about the lab if they have any.
