Oil filters in 2024

What oil filters do you guys use in your vehicles?

I have done lots of research and see conflicting opinions of guard and leppon. Some say guard, some say leppon.

I also can't find the correct filter for my 3.2 pajero, so am currently using guard gdo-171, it's a bit smaller in height than genuine but works. Any suggestions?

My opinion is as long as it's not fake, it's good.

However, does anyone have access to actually evidence that these filters and their paper quality to back up their claims?

I'm just curious. I imagine the filters I'm currently using are 'ok', but it's just a curiosity thing for me. I have already seen the filters being cut open, but those threads are kinda old now.

sir in Pakistan automotive market there are very limited choice for aftermarket non-oem products.

incase you have reservation for local aka 'CHYNA' products it is best that you switch to oem new for peace of mind. people wasting time doing autopsy of such items are doing it for fun only.

they hardly have enough resources to actually prove the filtering (porus properties) properties of material or pressure test equipment available to actually see fluid movement at certain pressure to reach a determind point with clock ticking to test.

do not risk your high value engine because i heard, we did, he said etc etc

Was able to visit my local filter house and seem to have found some quality products.

Personally, I prefer Guard and Leppon.
For your 3.2 Pajero, using a Guard GDO-171 filter that's a bit smaller in height than the genuine one can work.
Well, the difference in size might not affect performance significantly as long as the filter's specifications align closely with OEM requirements.

Thx. From experience and visual inspection, I have found leppon to be of better quality than guard. Cannot comment on filtration media or working since we can't lab test them, so Im commenting only from a visual standpoint. If you look through the center hole of guard, you can see the metal piece in the center with small holes where the oil comes through, they aren't cleanly stamped or perfectly symmetrical.

I have found leppon 932 for my Suzuki every, and quality is good, if you find a real one and not a fake. A seller UA techno precision on daraz is my go to as they have genuine products.

However, there aren't any leppon or Vic filters available for our pajero.

So, I went to the local filter house and found sankei roki filters in the correct size. They are good quality and the correct size so I am feeling better about using those Vs guard for my vehicle.

Do you have a source for the Tokyo Roki filters? I'd love to have a look at them and try them in Karachi. Haven't seen them around here.

I've tried the JS Asakashi C932J and ViC C-932, which are meant to be OEM replacements. I've also tried the ViC C-110 and C-113, just to hold a little bit more oil volume to aid its life. The C-113 is the tallest one I've been able to find.

Sorry, they are sankei roki, Malaysian. Could not find Tokyo roki.

I tried to find Js asakashi or Vic replacement for my pajero from parts central, but they were unavailable.

These are so far the best I can find, I would go oem but worry about fakes as I've seen them first hand.

So this is the diesel 3.2? Mitsubishi 1230A046 for the OEM filter. I think the ViC and JS replacements are C-313. 150mm height, M26x1.5 thread, 102mm OD, 1.3 bar bypass pressure.

Just based on the thread size, the C-306 will also fit. You might even try asking Caterpillar for part number 1269907, or find a Hengst, Mann, or Mahle filter from any large truck part shops.

Leppon ot-10313. No stock
Js- unavailable
C-306 is smaller in size. It will fit, but it's a bit smaller which is why I didn't go for it. Im using guard gdo-171 which is the only one I found locally and it's smaller too.

I've bought 2 of these sankei ones and they seem to be of decent quality. Better than local anyhow

My main gripe here is getting a genuine product. I've seen and purchased fake oil filters in the last year. One point I see of 'fake' or cheap local filters is that if you look down the hole in the filter, there will be this red gluey stuff smeared everywhere. So far, all the fake filters I've bought have that.

My father bought an 'azaki' branded filter thinking it was a good one. Brought it home and I saw that fake smud stuff in it. It was also suspiciously light for the size of filter. I compared them to these sankei roki filters I bought and the weight difference alone is alarming.
