Oil for 1998 engine?

Today I went to filter house and the guy was hell bent on selling me the Kixx gold 20w50 which was API SF. An obsolete technology.

I originally wanted to buy Havoline synthetic which is 10w40 I think. But the guy said that it was too thin for such an old car. 1998(civic.)
Ended up buying micking semi synthetic which is API SL (Owners manual I got off internet asks for SJ for my car)
Although my car has about 200k on the odometer it is not reducing any oil MashaAllah. (20w50 is being used)

My question is that what Viscosity rating should I use. Considering the temperature of Pakistan and old engine.
Manual recommends 5W-30 or 10W-30 according to temperature. But that manual is American/Canadian.

API SF/Cf is just rubbish & dont even think abt buying it. Ur choice of 10w40 was good, its an allrounder for old cars in summers & winters equally. I dont normally like 20w50 as i feel my engine a bit heavy when i use 20w50 especially in winters. btw i use Zic A 10w40 in my 99 civic & very happy with it.

these old oil formulations are suited for older style engines like the donkey cart engine of suzuki F8A etc. which have flat rocker and cams that rub.

The old Hondas were specced for it and have performed for more than half a million kms

Ur choice bro. I personally feel that 20w50 is too viscous for a Honda to breath easily.
Try 10w40, then feel the difference. If ur car doesn't reduce oil on 10w40 then stick to it.

Yes man go for zic A 10w-40(semi-synthetic)
I am also using it in my 96 corolla and the result is awesome
But beware of fake oil sellers
Only buy zic oil from an sk lubricants authorized dealer
I have done extensive research on oils and trust me and go for zic A due to its high flash point it will not evaporate and due to its high :-# viscosity index it is ranked among the top oils in the world
remember the greater the viscosity index(not viscosity) the greater the performance of that oil
Pls dont go for these crappy havolines, helix and quartz.These are outdated stupid oils

i have been using 10w40 in my daewoo since purchace in 1996..and on stock engine it is runnig fantastic
