Haha, why should I mind that, its your car your choice.
So what's the difference?
I'm getting same fuel economy at 5w50 that you're getting.
5w50 gives way lesser friction as compare to 5w20 or 5w30.
I would say choose oil that suits you, your driving style, and the places you're gonna drive.

Btw fuel economy difference in 1.8 with ac and without ac isn't much like its in decimal figure.

I have a probox, essentially the same engine and transmission as the corolla. What oil would be best, the car is driven about 60k+ (or should i say 160,000 +/-). Mainly i want good fuel average and a smooth drive. Is 5w-30 good or some other grade ?

5W30 or 5W40 would do the job

Should i get shell or some other brand ? Shell is almost as expensive as liqui moly, if i am not wrong ?

When should I change my first oil for 1.6 altis? At 2500 or 5000? Toyota guys said at 2500

Shell is good and less expensive than liqui moly. Shell 5W30 is about 2700rs and 5W40 is 3700rs. Change it on 5000kms with toyota oil filter.

First oil can be changed from 1000km to 2000km because it has lot of particals from wear and tear of new engine. After it on regular 5000km intervals.
