So I'm in a bit of pinch here and would appreciate any sort of help or advice. Recently bought a used vehicle for the first time so was definitely inexperienced in doing so but here goes;
The seller had disclosed from the start that the engine was swapped to another engine, and I didn't have a problem with that because a) the vehicle was in good condition, and b) it's a good engine plus the vehicle also comes in that engine variant. He didn't, however, show the document of the vehicle until after the transaction despite me asking for it a couple of times but he simply claimed that the owner hadn't send it to him yet. I realize now that I should have been persistent with that but my primary concerns always were the chassis and mechanics of the car itself and the car being an import. Anyways, I've bought the vehicle and it turns out that the older engine is on the book/registration which I'm not comfortable with this and want everything to be as per the law requires so there are no further headaches later on.
How do I go about getting the documentation of the engine change if the seller doesn't provide it to me or says they don't have the receipt etc. or it was from another vehicle? I'm also worried that if the engine is from another vehicle, it could be registered against that other car's book/registration. I also don't think it's smart to transfer the car on my name before getting this change done on the book/registration as I could then be held responsible for not showing this engine change on the papers.
