Original paint (pearl white) peeling issue

I recently bought a Nissan Sunny 2005 in pearl white colour in excellent condition. Astonishingly, the oem body paint has turned brittle and is peeling off from different panels of the body especially the roof and the curvatures. What could be the cause and possible solutions. Thank you.

Never seen OEM paint peel-off like that even in 1980's cars, unless something was done to the paint or the car was repainted with poor base-prep.You see clearcoat failure or primer exposure in a gradual, diffuse manner but nothing like a peel-off like this. Are you certain this is genuine paint?

In any case, you will have to strip off the entire panel and repaint it for a perfect finish now.

Surprising for me as well. But it's genuine paint flaking off the horizontal surfaces and curves!

this can't be without something acidic spilling on the car, given that its an original car

Maybe this is the white color OP is talking about. It is more of an egg-white color. Not like the one we see in Land cruiser, Prado, Camry. This is the only white that came in PKDM Sunny.

What's done is done. Now the only way to fix this would be to strip the remaining paint and redo the panel. Good to see the underlying sheet-metal doesn't show any signs of rust. However, if you leave it like for a few weeks, it may start developing rust spots and can become an expensive repair. Best to cover the bare exposed metal with some kind of wax or WD-40 for the time being.

I bought it since it's in extraordinary condition. Low mileage. The owner told that it kept standing in the open under sun for a longer period.

The car is in total genuine paint. How much the resale would be affected if i get it repainted from a good booth?

Please post pictures of the car, sensor off the number plate, the damage to resale is already done, your painting it won't make a difference to the resale. But it will save the car from rust
