Overhaul OR Engine replacement?

Aoa Guys,

My 2006( import 2009 ), Vigo's Engine is gone. There was water in the fuel filter. I have no idea how it got there

anyway, Plz advise me if I should replace my 1kd-ftv engine with a used imported engine (from Container) Cost: 250,000

OR

Should I just get the damn thing overhauled??? Cost : approx 110,000 with genuine parts

Plz advise. I badly need your help

water in the fuel filter is not alarming, you have an indication for this on the dashboard too. Just drain the water and startup again.

By dead engine have you confirmed this from a compression test?

Or is your engine just mechanically broken somewhere

That's the sad part. There was no light on the speedometer .

It decreases mobil oil. When you lift the oil guage, oil starts flying out in droplets. The guys at INH workshop said that the engine is gone.

BTW, how do I do the compression test?

that seems like blowby - do the paper blowby test at the oil filler cap with hot engine at 1700 rpm - it should not have blowby. If it still does, you may want to have your injectors tested, if they are blocked or firing late - it may feel retarded and show blowby and also reduce engine oil due to it siphoning oil from the unsealed piston rings

The oil decrease maybe also be because of cylinder head valve seals - you dont need to open up the engine to change them out.

The compression test is done by removing injectors and checking with a diesel compression gauge with adapter - you should see about 400 psi compression on each cylinder - find a good mechanic that has a diesel compression tester

AoA. Sir i recently bought a 3 door prado 1990 model. It has 5L diesel engine. After few days i noticed a smoke coming out of a blowby pipe. I live in Kashmir so here are very few mechanics. I visited one of them and he told me that the engine is weak. He suggested me for an overhaul. What do you suggest?
