Ownership transfer on existing book

So far I have never transferred a car so I'm curious what happens when ownership is changed? Do they cancel the existing book? And if a new book is issued is the existing book cancelled? I have read on pakwheels that a new book is optional and you can opt for updating the existing book instead.

Books were old method. Now the records are digital and smart cards are issued for each owner/transfer.

Ohkay. But how do you know if a book is missing? I don't think all books are converted into smart cards.

The smart cards came into practice like 5-6 years back. And before that the owners has the passport books for the vehicles.

If vehicle has passport book, then check its used pages. All the previous owner details should be there on the book.
Each transfer has one sticker on passport book which covers its one full page
with details like name, father name, nic, chasiss, model, etc.

Also check the file of the vehicle, all ex-owners (as per book) must have their ID Cards and T.O. (Transfer order forms) attached in the original book. If some ex-owner is mentioned in the passport book but his NIC or T.O. is missing in the original file, then it means some documents are missing in the original file which is not a good sign.

Okay so if there are multiple books, is the number of new book mentioned on the older book or there's anything indicating that the old book was cancelled? I just wanna know how to identify a missing book in docs.

May I know where the car was registered ?

For best peace of mind, show the file to a transfer agent and they check it for free. It takes 2-3 minutes for them to see all the documents and find if something is fishy.

Since this services are free, so after checking with one agent, you can show same file to another agent too to double check.

But I have been driving it for more than a year.

I bought this car last year, my broker checked the file and called CPLC or something. Last night I checked the docs. There's one TO form, original sales receipt, and some other papers. The car is on second owner's name so this seems fine. Transfer details are updated on the book too. But I was wondering if another book was issued to the second owner and it's not in the file.

It's registered in Sindh.

See. If you are already driving this car over an year, and you bought it after checking its file from an agent, then there is nothing to worry about.

Actually most important details are of present owner. It must be shown on digital records as well as in original file too.
Since the biometrics has become mandatory, hence present owner details should be updated for sure.
