Why do we need tankers? For example US Air Force aircraft need to get from the US mainland to Iraq or Afghanistan, where is the PAF intending to go?

Why?

Because:-

Air-to-Air refueling means.

Increased range (distance) and endurance (Time).

PAF has to increase its endurance (on station time on one particular point in airspace) with minimum number of aircraft so as to keep those points plugged for maximum time with least number of fighters. So, with AAR a fighter can stay in air twice as much the time than it does without in- flight refueling. AAR is carried out under the cover of Air Borne Early Warning.
Hence, AAR and AEWC makes any airforce the most potent force against which one has to think 10 times to launch an attack.

for those who are thinking AAR is not needed by PAF:
since we have the Awacs consider a typical awacs sortie in a time of escalated tension. 3-5 aircrafts would be escorting the Awacs. when these fighters would need refueling would it be better for all of them to return to base and get refueled or to get fuel in the air? AWACS itself can also get AAR which can fly more than six hrs continuously. similarly if a head of a state is flying to or from Pak n four or five fighters are escorting it over the arabian then AAR would definitely a big help.
it is something that might not be needed everyday. but can be very useful.

ISLAMABAD: The first Aircraft tanker for aerial fuelling has arrived in Pakistan at Air Force operational base, Geo News reported the PAF sources saying Saturday.

Pakistan will receive three more aircraft tankers in the next year.

Pakistan’s defence capability will be significantly enhanced with the inclusion of the refueling aircraft in PAF fleet.

According to sources, this aircraft has been given to Pak Air Force by Ukraine.

Customized variant of the Il-78M, fitted with PS-90 engines and UPAZ refuelling pods for Pakistan Air Force. It's Tanker/transport as opposed to tanker only version, thus fulfilling the requirements of Pakistan Air Force for both transport and air refueling.

with air to air refulling u donot need to send ur aircraft back on the ground for refulling this will incraese air sueriority and caps missions.
the second thing that every aircraft has a limited number of hard points so this point of ak was invalid .

They do not fly all the way from US to Iraq!! They have Aircraft Carriers ain the middle-east before the way on Iraq or Afghanistan! No Jet can fly that much.

I meant bombers like B-2 Spirit which flew all the way from US, dropped bombs on targets in Iraq and flew back all without ever stopping and just once needing aerial refueling.

this is a waste of precious money and nothing else.this could be easily spent on education and health care.we are 3rd world nation not a super powers this limited resources which should be utilized in development projects
