Pajero 3rd Gen diesel is worth it? Or should I get a Toyota Surf?

I have recently seen a number of Mitsubishi Pajero 3rd Generation in Lahore. I believe 1999 to 2005 model.
The SUVs look really good to the eyes. Made me go through the Pajeros for sale on Pakwheels.The price range seems to be 22-25 in certain cases.
Now I have a few questions about the vehicle.
I know that its a Mitsubishi so the drive would be amazing.
Is it a better option compared to any other SUV in the same price range. I guess 3rd Gen Hilux Surf and Prado 1995 onwards model.
How difficult is it to find its spares, and how costly are those compared to a third generation SURF.
Now I know one thing that our fuel isnt of the best quality and GDI will not be a good idea.
Which diesel engine is easier and comparatively cheaper to maintain? There are a few varients of that that I really dont know much about.
WHAT IS THE FUEL AVERAGE LIKE on different diesel engines (I know SUV and fuel dont go together but I wanna know that in comparison with a surf.

So overall I want to know the preference of the members in 3rd Gen Pajero and 3rd Gen Surf.
Which one is better in terms of features, fuel economy, power and maintenance.

The purpose is occasional and the light kind of off roading, nothing extreme. Hence I did not mention a cruiser.
Mostly to be driven in the city. Not looking a for a petrol engine in either case. Maybe a 2.7 Surf, but Pajero not in GDI petrol.

Best engine option for 3rd gen Pajero is 4M40 2835cc diesel turbo.

A friend have got one in Islamabad, its auctioned from French embassy and in pristine condition, he got it for 29.

Its giving almost 10km/l in city and on highway around 12km/l.

He changed all its shocks and suspension rubber parts and found them easily in Rwp/Isl.

I have got a Toyota Surf 1999 with 1KZ-TE and I have done 50000 kms in last 2 years.

She is doing 8km/l in city and around 10 on long route al hamd o lillah.

Parts are easily available.

I would suggest to give first priority to the condition of any one of them.

Pajero 3rd Gen over surf anytime but we are a Toyota Nation and running a 3rd gen might be difficult at times.

Surf comes no where near the Pajero in any aspect, All spares are available, and available in different qualities, decent pajeros cost 2.5+.
3.2 is a good engine, requires extra care, performs unbelievably.
2.8 is the best one to buy, adn go for a dewan import, you won't regret it.
Surf has a unique driving position, not many enjoy it

Now I have one question, is the factor that this is an old model of Toyota Surf important to answer? As in, would it turn into a safaid hathi? Or is it strong enough to last long if maintained properly. I just started looking at the Pajero because well its a Mitsubishi which means all the comfort and quality to be expected from it and on Pakwheels it somehow seemed to be in a similar price range as the Surf.

I just have my doubts that though it seems worth it based on the looks and features. What worries me is spending the extra buck to get a Pajero and then relying on junkyards for parts. Specially the perfect mechanic bit is kind of scary.

Was hoping you'd reply here. So the ones in 2.2-2.4 like prices will be the messy ones I believe. What would you recommend in a budget of 2.4 million at best?

a manual dewan import 2.8 Pajero, 2004-2006. You might find auto ones too, but just look for maintained vehicles, from people who know about jeeps.

Any vehicle properly maintained would be problem free, surfs are work horses, they run like crazy even when abused, the only downside to them is the awkward seating postions

If you have the pocket for it, everything is available new, don't have to rely a bit on a junkyard

I think 10w40 is recommended. Brand doesn't matter as long as it's original. If the engine is mint and problem free, go for fully synthetic 5w30. If it's high mileage and been used on thicker oil, then 10w40

Cost of oil is not a problem.

Mobil1 is the best of the lot. Castrol is my preference as it's not too expensive and works well. Have heard good thi gs about valvoline as well
