Hello everyone, time for another update.
About 3 weeks back I stated to notice that Mini was loosing power on high RPM and there was some hesitation on starting acceleration. Last time I performed spark plugs service was around 6+ months back, so I thought this could be it. Also, I had doubt about unbranded air filter I put in.
So, I did change the air filter to Leppon brand, nothing noticeable happened. So, a week back, I started spark plugs service, engine oil change, coolant change. The regular maintenance.
This is how spark plugs looked like when I took them out. This should be normal color / condition after 6+ months of driving. If there's black carbon on it, that means car is burning extra fuel.
This is after couple of plugs were serviced with acid wash and patrol. Also cleaned up coils and its wires.
After putting everything back
Engine oil and coolant replaced. Used these brands first time,
And finally, full tank. Every time I refuel, I remember of the time I did it in under PKR 2,000 only
So, I started driving it and noticed good pickup and almost no hesitation on start of acceleration. But when I took to speed of 60+ (4th gear) and on 3k-4k RPM, I noticed if I press accelerator pedal more, car seem to loose power or lack of air like feeling.
I tried to test turbo, which looked and sounded okay, then I started inspecting turbo vacuum pipes, and guess what? I found one little bugger had a small cut just at the spot it connects to one of the metal pipes. Also, these vacuum rubber pipes were loose on some attachments, just pulling a little bit, would take them out. Must be leaking pressure and making the turbo boost under-perform.
When I inspected other pipes around, I found that water pipes from throttle body also need to be replaced. I have to do that at workshop as I can't get to them with ease.
In this adventure, I thought this is good time to service fuel injectors as well, and test them if they all are working okay. I watched some videos on youtube, and opened up injectors as well.
I forgot to take photo of cleaned injectors, they looked pretty shiny after wash with carb cleaner spray, trust me
This is before replacing vacuum pipes
And this is after replacing all of them, it was pretty late, around 1am when I wrapped it up
Next day I took some more photos, this one shows how many total pipes were replaced, some were pretty loose and some were okay, but I replaced them all. Combined length of these pipes is around 11ft. 3 odd ones are, patrol pipe on injectors bus, PVC valve and water hose to turbo booster.
This is how that small vacuum leak crack looked in few of them
And day time photo, I've marked visible pipes so you get the idea where were these connected, there were some under intercooler too
So far haven't driven it after this 2nd service. I just did high RPM turbo exhaust gate open test, which is pretty solid. I see it opens at ~5k+ RPM and stays open, while previously it would do vibrate like motion, open close rapidly. Which makes it that was due to leaking of pressure from vacuum pipes.
I will do a test drive and share how boost performance is affected after this 1 week long service.
