Hello learned and experienced members. I'm a newbie with regards to 4x4s, recently thought to buy 1 and Pajero attracts me more than the LCs and Prados. My objective is to drive it 2 may be 3 days-a-week to the office and occasional--once in 2-3 months may by--dirt road driving (not hard core off-roading) as I'm a keen bird photographer. My budget is about 1.5m so basically I am looking for a Gen2, 3.5l Petrol car.

I'm recently offered a 2003 model, 2005 registered 6G74 engine, automatic, without sunroof, which has seen her better days already as far as interior is concerned. Externally, the car is in shape but needs some TLC. The engine still has some juice left and the transmission is flawless. My questions to you guys are:

1. The guy is asking around 2.0m. What is the price range for this model and what's a good-to-have price for the description that I gave?
2. Can I find a good, reliable Pajero mechanic in Karachi? I know that this breed can only be swapped with a hoor or two from the jannat, but still, can I find one here?
3. Any good electrician of Pajeros in town? or any good electrician would do about the fuel gauge and some other minor irritants.
4. In future, what are the chances that I may be able to have a 3.5l engine placed in this? Is it a bolt-on swap? I know that they are called 'capsules' so body can't be changed for these models.

I'm not too concerned about the mileage and re-sale, because these aren't the things that I'm looking to buy a 4x4 for. Anxiously waiting for your candid, and open remarks about the above queries.

If it is a 3rd Gen, I reckon it has a GDI variant of 6G74. If that is the case, don't even try to fix the engine. Just squeeze all the remaining juice and swap it with a DOHC 24 Valve Multi ECT 6G74 (a.k.a. non GDI). I am sure it will be a bolt on replacement. No wonder GDIs are a treat to drive, they are equally a pain to maintain.

A 3rd Gen in 2 Million is a bargain already IMO.

Wish you were in Lahore, I would have hooked you up with a great tech. Sorry! Can't help in that department for Karachi. I am sure there would be some in Karachi as well and some Karachi member will definitely suggest.

Thanks Saquib Dogar saheb, today I've got the engine checked with a veteran who had driven the same model in Saudia for 14-15 years, and he had all the good things to say about the engine. It's already a swap from 2.8D to 6G74 and the paperwork is in place for the same. He diagnosed a subtle sound in the exhaust pipe and said it might be a cause of the original diesel exhaust which either is touching the body and needs to be adjusted or another alternative is to put in a straight exhaust pipe. The A/c isn't working properly for which the technician said to change the coil or condenser, or something worth 12-15k and it will be good to go according to him.
The car needs a lot of internal cosmetics, will try to get the estimates for that too. At the moment, I've closed the deal in Rs.1.8m so there's no turning back now. I might be throwing all sorts of questions to you people in the coming days, so please bear with me.
By the way, are you still with Express?

There are many jobs which a diesel to petrol converted vehicle needs to run flawlessly. I am also using a diesel to petrol converted vehicle.

A clean NCP Pajero in Quetta would cost you at least over 6 lacs. You can put the body of Pajero 97, if you put on a body of 98 Pajero it would become illegal.... and body change isnt advisable just because of 2-3 dents. its a big hassle

Haven’t got the delivery yet, but I’ve currently decided to change the oils, flush the radiator, internal cleaning, brake pads checking, and external rubbing and polish. And then as the vehicle is driven any and all work—as and when required—will be done.
There is one problem which needs immediate attention: the engine light is ‘on’, and the seller said that when it was ‘off’ the car was missing a bit but it runs just fine with the light on. My guy has confirmed this because he had driven the vehicle before and after this light issue. What could be the problem here?
Anything else that need to be checked, done immediately?

Get it scanned one cant say anything without scanning error code

You need to identify the error code and the actual fault. It probably would be a faulty or dirty sensor. Replacing or cleaning the faulty part will remove the error.

I am a proud owner of Pajero Gen II 2.8D - 3Door and will soon be upgrading its tyres. I would appreciate if you can share your experiences in the matter and guide with any recommendations. I would like to get mud terrain tyres primarily with how they look but i am worried about road noise and fuel economy. If anyone has tried installing mud terrain tyres and can share their opinion, it would be really helpful.

The wiring in this gen is a pain, and so is diagnosing, fixing it up is a task that even masters shy away from.
I purchased a lemon gen3, and brought it back to life, safe to say, i lost an arm and a leg in the process, let alone the khuwari too. SO BE EXTREMELY careful with what you do with it.

File checked and okayed, token given, payment is scheduled for today, al hamd o lillah (3rd Gen Pajero V6 3000 Petrol).
What should be the protocol to get it home? I've decided the following order:
1. Take it to the electrician first to:
a) Scan the vehicle for the engine light, and get it done
b) Fuel gauge needle or gauge whichever is faulty needs to be done
2. Take it to the A/c technician to get this done
3. Take it to the mechanic to flush, and if need be, service the radiator, change the engine oil, check and if need be, change transmission and other oils too.
4. Take it to the poshish guy for seat covers, and back seat recliner checking
5. Take it for internal cleaning and external polish
Any thoughts/comment on this will be appreciated.

First deal with the mechanical and electrical bits before going to the cosmetics, the fuel gauge is usually faulty due to a loose resistor in the speedometer, tutorials for repairs are available on youtube.
Engine check light is a complicated thing in this vehicle, i would suggest you first do your homework before going to any mechanic. Read forums online to get an idea of the complexity of the repairs on this vehicle.
From what i have learned, you have to do most of the work yourself and only instruct the mechanic exactly what to do and they will do it.

Anyone has any leads on a 3 door first gen Pajero. Would appreciate any sort of help. Budget is around 3.50-3.75. Not looking for one in pristine condition considering the budget. Also considering a vehicle that may need complete resto, should be priced accordingly as well. Please help guys!!
