any car depends on proper maintainance and repairs. If u have quality parts but r not professionally installed than ur bound to have problems. SImilalry using chinese/substandard parts would reduce the performance as well as life of the car substantially.
the key therefore is to use genuine parts and avoid taking the car to small time mechanic shops. As I said, the company i use to work for had many margallas and none gave any problems as they all went to the dealers for all their repairs and servicing.
I agree that Mehran is not a good car at all. I have not driven Liana, but i guess so many posters must be right.
City Idsi engine is indeed quite at idle but the sounds it produces at high rpm are indeed lawn mover like.
City Idsi engine does indeed give 12-14 km per liter but that is a VERY HEAVY tradeoff for a SUBSTANTIAL reduction in PICK. I think that the tradeoff between fuel economy and engine power is much better achieved by all the other current 1300 cc cars including corolla, lancer, and sunny. None of these are sports cars yet do achieve fuel economy that is pretty close to 12 km/liter while offering proper pick and performance. Their engines also sound much much better

ati: The only thing is that you can mention pros and cons about a car but simply canont brand it as the worst car withou any justification. i owned a 2005 IDSI and the only issue was sluggish pick, but remember people are usually fooled by that - take the car above 80 and you can get good pick as all the 8 plugs start firing. The Steermatic which I have now is a class apart and the best example of performance and economy. Bro IDSI and steermatic surprisingly give 12 to 14 within city depending upon your driving style.

As for margalla, i always went to genuine parts and no compromises. I miss my margalla very much but as I mentioned that it requires maintenance more than other suzuki cars at that time.

And frankly when you are taking about 1.2 to 1.3 cars, pick and performance really does not matter that much. I was once the biggest enemeny of city IDSI myself but after test driving and reading about it specs i went for it and am happy as ever

well according to my experience, the Honda City 2000 exis is the best 1.3 car ever produced in pakistan!
-its fast
-its comfortable
-its really easy to maintain
-rides low n hence is more stable
-awesome fuel economy
-though not that luxurious but then again, no car was that luxurious at the time
-i blv it was the only car under 1000 kgs (stock) n having 95 hp engine really gave it its edge in accelaration!

i had two of these citys n one had some serious work done under the hood! i could easily out accelerate any civic, corolla n it had so much torque that u push the pedal to the floor at 150 (4th gear) n it threw u back! not that much but still, getting a jerk at 150 in a 1.3 l car is quite a big deal!

maintenace was not that hard, i used to rip out the seats n clean it, engine bay is really big so every little part is easily accessable!
i sold out the altered one but still have the other with me! the only reason that one is screwed is cuz my fathers occupation did not give him much time for cars maintenance n my studies came in the way! but inshAllah my car will be back to normal this october

i believe that the car u mentioned is also on the BEST CAR LIST of the POSTer.

The City 2000 is a better car than the 2006-8 city because it had a superior 16 valve design as opposed to 8 valves in the IDSI. IDSi has a cheap, easy to manufacture, torsion beam suspension. A torsion beam suspension produces bad handling, rough ride and poor driving dynamics.. traits that are present in the Idsi. CIty 2000 had an expensive, suprisingly difficult to engineer, independent suspension. That suspension designin city 2000, along with a rigid body design resulted in far superior driving dynamics compared to the Idsi

btw i heard that IDSI has 2 plugs per cylinder which fire at different timings for better combustion of gasoline! :S

at lower speeds,the plugs fire at different times,but when u get to higer speeds,both the plugs fire at once to get u better acceleration....

one thing more,for all those who r bashing the 06-08 city for its poor acceleration...y dont u guys go check the steermatic? that the car which has some serious horse in it...idsi is just for family purpose,not fun nd not racing..wanna hav some fun?go get a steermatic... nd the steermatic was failed in pakistan only bcuz paindus didnt know how to drive it,as it was a new thing no one in their whole generation had ever seen...so its a mistake of honda atlast to bring such a nice techy car to pakistani market...the market where ppl like to pay the most nd get the least...

idsi doesnt hav any stability problem if u dont drive like u stole it...drive decently,nd its not gonna skid anywhere...i hav it for 3 yrs,hav done 115000kms on it,its very very reliable...its quiet,its comfortable,its drive is smoot,gives pleasure,specially the Electronic power steering makes life very easy...as a teenager,i hav been doing alot of rash driving stuff etc etc on my idsi,but i knew its limits nd i never tried to cross them...so i never ever had braking nd stability problems,the car never skids...earlier i had 195 sized tyres,nd believe me even if i wanted it to slip,the car didnt...i just loved its handling,i used to change lanes wud a jerk on steering wheel at speeds of 100km/h +, still no slips... a frnd had a corolla nd he was driven crazy that how could i do stuff like that wid only upgraded tyres? also keep in mind that my car is higher then normal idsi due to the spacers installed to lift the car after cng cylinder was put in...

now im back on 185 size tyre but handling is still very nice...nd those who think that the company gave 165 tyres on city bucz they calculated everything out are totally wrong...they put smaller tyres just to save some $$$...nothing else...

im thinking i shud make a complete review of city 06(not just 2 lines review:P) ,which wud include pix,text and videos about the car...videos showing braking,stability etc things nd pix showing the fuel economy,cabin space nd other things...if i get time to do it,inshallah i wud do it nd post here for clarification,as members like this uncle paindu r posting stuff which can mislead other members who have a neutral mind,although theres no need bcuz we hav already discussed everything in detail about city in honda city nd steermatic fan club,but still

...but even if a post this complete review,im sure ppl like this uncle arent gonna agree wid me on anything...but i dont give a F--- about it...

well best car ihave driven is my nissan sunny 86 .....in it i m having 20d 2004 nissan model engine ...........u cant belive when strting the ride if we press half accelerator and leave the clutch the car keeps on leaving traction burns on the road until the gear is changed

@ahmad, TOTALLY TOTALLY agree with u! the only reason y idsi isnt that "liked" is because gearheads like us want ultimate performance, something that car is not supposed to deliver!

All Pakistani manufacturer cars are good in there respective category & these cars accommodate large number of people with in all price range.

Personally I rate city steermatic the best in local manufacturing cars
