In my last trip to Pakisatn in December 2003, I was hit by a Toyota Hiace van. It was iftaari time and everyone was in a rush, I noticed an old man crossing the road with stopping on a bicycle, as I braked, the Hiace driver rear ended my Margalla and took off.
The car sustained substantial damage, the rear bumper got cracked, the tail lamp broke and the right rear side was crumpled in.
Next day, I took the car for repairs and was expecing to spend atleast Rs, 10,000 but to my astonishment the skillful Pakistani Body repair guy managed to pull the dent out, had the tail light cover replaced, repaired the bumper and got and had the rear side painted all under a tree for the cost of Rs, 800 only, less than $15. I was simply amazed. Had this happened in US, it would have been atleast been a damage of $1,000. Mechanics here take $50 just to look at the car and giving the estimate of the repairs. This proves the skills of the average Pakistani mechanic, whom, repaired very well and extremely.
I have strong faith in Pakistani workers. And I am sure the Pakistani Engineers can also do wonders with limited means.
