Every year, PakWheels.com conducts a comprehensive automobile industry survey to ascertain the choices, habits, and preferences of the consumers. This survey also helps compare and analyze new data with the old one. The survey provides valuable insights into the behaviors, preferences, and trends of the Pakistani automobile community.
The PakWheels Automobile Industry Survey 2022 gives us similar insights. With over 29,000 participants, the survey yielded interesting results reflecting the choices and opinions of Pakistani consumers.
Electric Vehicles in Pakistan
With the availability of the Audi e-Tron in Pakistan came a shift in the Pakistani automotive market. Consumers started looking toward electronic vehicles as their next possible purchase. This allowed other EV manufacturers to be able to enter the market as well and thus, create a space for futuristic, energy-efficient vehicles.
Pakistan still faces several challenges when it comes to the complete electrification of its vehicles. But, the movement has started especially due to electric bikes being common and the steps that the government has taken to facilitate the purchase and use of EVs.
PakWheels Automobile Survey 2022
This year’s PakWheels Automobile Survey aimed to understand the level of awareness Pakistanis have towards EVs. The survey asked the respondents if they knew about EVs at all. 88% of the respondents said that they were aware of electric vehicles.
When asked whether they knew which brands of EVs they knew about, a whopping 40% of the participants replied with Audi. 32% of the participants said they knew about MG EVs, and 7% mentioned Toyota.
We also asked the participants what the ideal price for buying an EV is. The majority of participants (11%) said they would buy an EV if it cost between PKR 2,500,000 to 3,000,000, while 10% of participants said they would buy it in a price range of PKR 3,500,000 to 4,000,000.
When asked about charging speed, 18% of participants said they would buy an EV if it charged within an hour. This shows that charging time is significant for Pakistani consumers.
Moreover, 19% of respondents said that it is neither like nor unlikely that they would buy an EV. This shows the uncertainty in the market for Electric Vehicles. Consumers still have doubts about whether EVs will be successful in Pakistan or not.
