need some expert advice. i have an OLD Yashica Quick-lite PRO-50DX flashlight lying around that belonged to my father. this has a very nice ac power cable that lets you charge it through ac outlet. i have read online that using older flashlights on the newer cameras might fry the camera circuit, but i dont want to use it on the camera hot shoe. i want to make a soft box and prolley use this flashlight inside it. i have a Nikon D5000. can you guys help me out about how to use this old flashlight in a soft box? how can we trigger the flash through the camera?
Very easy. Cheap ebay radio triggers.

and by the way, are these available locally?
Should be. Basically it make your hot shoe portable. You will have to shoot in full manual mode.
recently read a decent review on Yongnuo triggers (in low price catogory)for mid range, u should see Cactus V5 or Phottixtop end is dominated by Pocker Wizards and Radio Poppers
i dont think they are available locally
