use the wisdom, whatever suits to your environmental conditions but stick to grade 30

Brother I have already tried to explain a lot in some of my posts above.

shall i directly go to thin oil or i should get to it step by step. like 10W-30 and then 5W-30.

If you are extremely bent on switching to thin oils, then considering your case, what I can suggest is (although I am not owning it for reasons already mentioned in my above posts); first try to switch to 10w-30, and observe the behavior. If it behaves well, then after 2-3 oil changes, you may switch to 5w-30, and then also observe the behavior. If it behaves well, then you may continue using it, otherwise, switch to thick oils accordingly.

switching to thinner oil isn't bad for the engine which has been run on 10w-40 for long time?

i switch between 5w-30 & 10W-30 at change of weather in my town.

you shall also check the factors which can affect fuel efficiency of the engine.

1. Bad PCV valve ( change to new )
2. Bad Cooling system - drain water and start using coolant.
3. Running engine over direct fans, immediately re wire fans to work automatic

Ideally at working temperature of engine, 5w-30 or 10w-30 should behave equally and also in reference to their viscosity, i.e. their viscosity must be like that of Grade 30 mono-grade engine oil, however, it does not happen in reality.

5w-30 and 10w-30 are comparable and must ideally behave the same at optimum / working temperature of engine, still their Kinematic viscosity figures at 40°C and 100°C are different.

I had read in other threads one or 2 people mentioning that they switched to recommended oil grade even after knowing that previous owner was using 20W-50 . And they had mentioned no any issue with their engine..

Also i know that oil reduction is the issue with every passo owner whose ride is driven more than 80k although they are already on thinner oils.

some people mentioning thicker oils are poison for 1KR.
So my concern is shall i switch to thinner oil and straight to 5w30 or 10w30.. but as you suggested i will go with 10W-30 first and then see the difference.

So i will using 10W-30 for now since its still going to be hot in karachi.

Before the oil change , will check for pcv valve. using coolant already and fan is on automatic setting.

I have also read those posts, and have even endorsed / liked them too, but there is catch (which I'll explain later) and to me, things are different when suggesting something to oneself, and similar thing to others.

I'll elaborate, but 1st, a small incident:

Last year, or last-to-last year (I do not remember the year exactly), a Daihatsu Cuore owner asked here for engine oil recommendations when his vehicle was working absolutely fine on 10w-xx or 20w-xx engine oil. A member here (I'll not name him) suggested him 5w-30. By book, its fine. But after switching to 5w-30, his car's engine miserably failed, and repair work / replacement work for the engine and other allied systems, costed the owner more than 0.1 million PKR.

Now, who is responsible? Who is to be blamed? and who can be held accountable?

I fear ALLAH ALMIGHTY from any such incidents, or any such advises which may cause inconveniences to others.

I do recommend thin oils, in fact, am one of the biggest supporters of thin oils, but these thin oils do not work universally in all cases.

Currently there is 10w-40 semi-synthetic engine oil grade in my Accord. From next oil change, I'll be switching to 5w-30 fully synthetic IN SHA ALLAH, and preferably after engine flush. The car is mine, and GOD Forbid if anything goes bad, I'll be fully responsible, but I will be answerable to none.

I can take risks in my car's case, but for others, I'll be quite conservative.

In your, or anyone else's case, GOD Forbid if anything bad happens, then if I give you that suggestion, then I will be responsible and accountable for that.

They are owners of their vehicles and can do anything with them, and take any / all sorts of risks, but suggesting something to others, things are different, and should be different.
