Passo 2006 Engine oil recommendation

hello everyone. i have passo 2006 model . its 108000km driven already. which engine oil should i use for my car? currently using 10W-40..
I read in some other thread people mentioning 5W-30 for 1kr engine even after 1 lac mileage.
Need tried and tested suggestion...

try 5w30 of total if car reduces oil as 1kr has oil reduction problem then revert back to 10w40

What is the current engine health of your car?

Do you experience any oil reduction issues? Or smoke from the exhaust? etc.

If your answer is Yes, then continue using 10w-40, and in 10w-40, go for ZIC, which is fully synthetic, and value to money oil in its league.

If the answer is No, then 10w-30 would be a safe bet.

In your particular case, try to not go for 0w-xx or 5w-xx oils. 10w-30 may be the min. safe bet, and, 5w-30 VS 10w-30 do not make much difference, still, in your case 10w-30 is better.

In 10w-30, Caltex / Havoline all the way! Best value to money.

Agreed. One can use 5w-30 even after 3 lac Kms, provided, 5w-30 has always been in use since the very beginning, the day 01 of the car.

When multiple experiments are done regarding engine oils with the engines multiple times, then its better to play safe.

There is no smoke but there was some oil reduction which i noted when i checked the oil gauge on strip after driving 3k to 4k on that oil (i use zic x7 ) ... i poured around 200ml of same oil and oil gauge on strip was fine.

ZIC X7 10w-40 is a fully synthetic engine oil, and if you experienced oil reduction issues with it (which is slightly thick in comparison to 10w-30, and 5w-30 too, and is fully synthetic too), then I fear, these issues might increase many times, if you switch to thin oils like 5w-30, etc., despite being fully synthetic.

10w-30 can be acceptable, but still 10w-30 mineral (like in case of Caltex / Havoline) VS 10w-40 synthetic, again no match considering your issues.

Oil reduction on thick, fully synthetic engine oil like 10w-40 after 3-4,000 Kms, seems alarming, if you switch to 5w-30 or 10w-30.

My suggestion: Keep on using 10w-40 fully synthetic by ZIC. and change oil + oil filter after every 5,000 Kms.

Else if, your car's engine, yours choice.

Also i have always been complaining for fuel average issues.
Recently i got plugs changed along with throttle service. major difference in pick. not much improvement in fuel efficiancy. 8 to 10 with ac in city and 12-13 on highway with ac..

YES. I would say so.

YES. Of course, thick oil can be one of the reasons.

These engines are designed to work best at 0w-20, 5w-20 and at max. 5w-30 engine oils (10w-30 can also be acceptable at later stages). However, the moment you switch to xw-40, or xw-50 engine oil grades, like 5w-40, 10w-40, etc. there is massive drop in pick, power, and especially fuel efficiency.

But it may also be noted that 0w-20, 5w-20 and at max. 5w-30 engine oils may be in use since the beginning, and no experimentation done on the engines, by mechanics / ustaads, in regard to engine oils. Things worsen, when there is transitioning between thin / thick engine oils, or, thick oils used for many years in the engine.

I have owned Passo with 1KR-FE in the past. Once I poured 5w-40 in it, instead of 5w-30, and there was massive drop in its pick and fuel efficiency, like almost 4-6 kmpl for the same driving conditions. Nothing else was messed up with.

It returned when I switched back to 5w-30 from next oil change.

So YES, thick oils do make difference.

In your particular case, you are already using thick oil. It is fully synthetic, still, you are facing some engine oil consumption issues.

If you'll switch to 5w-30, or even 10w-30, I fear, these issues may worsen. You might experience more oil consumption. Smoke from the exhaust may also start, along with other issues. YES, fuel efficiency will slightly increase.

If you keep on using 10w-40, there will be less fuel efficiency, however, there is no smoke from the exhaust, and fuel consumption (like 200 ml after 3-4,000 Kms) can be considered as reasonable and acceptable.

The choice will be yours. Either engine life and health, or, fuel efficiency. I fear, at your stage and particular case, these 02 seem difficult at the same time.

You can experiment with 10w-30 from the next oil change, and see and observe, what happens? (But I am not owning switching to 10w-30. Try at your own risk)

In 10w-30, Caltex / Havoline is best for bucks. Change oil + filter after every 3-3500 Kms. Do not drag it for 5,000 Kms / beyond.

I am using 5w30 fully synthetic in my 165k kms driven Passo. It was driven for over a lac kms on 20w50 garbage oil, used to give around 10 kmpl on highways when I first bought it. Now it gives 17-21 kmpl depending on how hard I floor it on highway. In city it does anything between 12-15 kmpl with qc on all the time depending on traffic congestion. Go for any reputed fully synthetic 5w30 oil eyes closed.
1kr is notorious to oil reduction, dw if it reduces up to 1L in 5k kms. It is even mentioned in the manual that its normal.

yes i had read manual , its mentioned there 0.95 L after 5000km is fine.

Now my question is , shall i directly go to thin oil or i should get to it step by step. like 10W-30 and then 5W-30.
