Passo 2015 Tire Size

Dear Pak wheelers,

An old topic but with little concrete discussion. I have a 2015 passo and want to change its rims and tires.

Current stock: 155/80/13
Manufacture recommended are 155/80/13 and 165/70/14.

Will putting a 175/70/14 affect suspension in a bad way? How bad will the fuel economy hurt?

Tire shops are recommending 165/65/14 (Dunlop R1) if i go with that will the ride lose height as currently running are 155/80/13.

Advise is appreciated.

This size will give great fuel efficiency, however, will compromise on road grip and ground clearance.

If your car is stock, there are no spacers / packing, etc. then on 155/80/13, car will almost hit all speed breakers, when 3-5 persons are on board,

Instead of this, I would suggest to go for 185/70/R14.

Fuel efficiency will slightly drop, however, road grip will massively increase, and ground clearance issues will also get resolved.

You will not be requiring any spacers / packing etc. to cater for ground clearance.

And with 3-5 persons, along with luggage, car will not hit most speed breakers.

I think NO.

Suspension will only get hurt, if you install extremely heavy duty and heavy weight rims (Alloy rims to be precisely), with width more than 6".

On normal, genuine / OEM 14" Steel rims, you won't face any suspension issues. IN SHA ALLAH.

(Not Good IMO, and that's the reason that OEM is recommending 165/70/R14, instead of 165/65/R14)

You must go for at least 165/70/R14, the size recommended by the OEM.

My sincere suggestion is to go for 14" size, instead of 15", etc.

In 14" size, stock, steel / OEM rims are the best.

Do not go for alloy rims, until / unless, they are light weight (not Chinese / Taiwanese heavy weight rims), in 14" size, with width around 5-6" at max.

If any of above is not there, then suspension will be greatly affected and compromised.

Do not fall prey to fancy looking alloy rims, which are heavy in weight. They might look beautiful, but may prove disastrous in the long run.

I myslef did a similar experiment with my Vitz, despite being sincerely warned by many members, and deeply repented later.

They were light weight, and genuine LENSO rims, but in 15" size, and quite wide.

Other than ground clearance, I did not get any benefit.

Fuel efficiency massively compromised, ride become a bit stiff and hard, etc. many problems.

Although does not look nice, But I would like to make an offer that if interested in 14" steel rims, then I have genuine / OEM 14" Steel Rims and Wheel Cups of Toyota Vitz with me (2015 model Vitz), and haven't sold them yet.

Will be sold at market price, as they do not have any faults, bends, cracks, etc.

Just ensure that rims are light weight and not very wide.

Basit Ali, I am thinking of going for 14inch alloys commonly available in the market at 30k / set. Will these also be heavy for the car.

A mechanically inclined friend and through some research i have found out that 175 65 14 (commonly available) is similar to 165 70 14 (not common).

With tire sizes sorted. Please advise on alloy rims 14 inch (My goto places are faisal town tire shops (Sheryar, Mr. Tire, Fareed, etc)

You may also consider Speed Tyres on Main Boulevard, Faisal Town. They also have rims too.

I do not think they are good. These are mostly China / Taiwan made, with questionable build quality and heavy weight. But then, log use kar rahay hain, so chalnay daitay hain.

where can lightwheight rims be bought?

Light wight rims in 14" size seem difficult to source, and then they would be quite expensive, like 35-45,000 PKR might be the min. starting price.

Brother from where did you get the quote?

As far as I know, LENSO rims start from min. 15" size, and do not come in 14".

Please check. I fear, the rims which you are getting are fake or copy.

LENSO rims are all alloy rims, irrespective light weight or normal weight.

A.A i have toyota passo 2014 and its current tyre size is 185/65/R14 which were in use from the previous owner. I am not much satisfied with the car's average and want to shift to oem recommend size i.e 165/70/R14. Will this increase the fuel average???
