I don't have any proof, I just know that cologne is for men and perfume for women. I could be right or could be wrong.

Cologne is another term used specifically for men's perfume, nonetheless perfume is for both men and women.

Well they are mistaken most of the times when in reality both of them are made from denatured Ethyl Alcohol and other essential oils. The actual difference between them lies in the strength of their scents.

Eau de Parfum - Strongest
Eau de Toilette - Stronger but less then the perfumes
Eau de Cologne - Least Stronger

Just for GK, even though France has the biggest industry of scents but in fact they are invented by Egyptians.<small></small><small> </small>

For those of you who are really interested in scents, perfumes their composition etc a very interesting movie to watch is well haha its called 'Perfume'.. But it can be very appalling and disgusting to some.. so please be advised accordingly..

Well as a matter of fact even Parfum (perfume) and Eau de Parfum are two different things. Straight 'Parfum' is highly concentrated form of scents and are the most expensive of all.
