[Personal View] - Suzuki bikes might be becoming disposable soon

Valves from 800 to 2500 Rs, Carburetor from 4800 to 14000 Rs, Oil filter from 160 to 280 Rs and so on...

Yes you have read it correctly I myself initially was in disbelief. These sudden price hike is beyond my understanding. Where Pak Suzuki is heading ?

Any type of repairing is now beyond ones affordability, I saw an invoice of 35K for engine overhaul of Sprinter, 35K includes labor and normal / usual spare parts like valves, piston seals, clutches. This invoice is from a township dealer, not from a showroom. Just imagine if the invoice was from a showroom.

Mechanic was head down and was worried about the business as people are now reluctant as things are getting beyond their affordability.

You are right. the parts prices of suzuki are way expensive. but their qualuty is far better than the parts available for honda and local chinese 70 and lifaan parts.

a good sprinter engine can last for 15 years easily if treated properly and if u use it like a drunkard it can easily give 8-10 years......

so it depends.....sasta roey bar bar and mehnga roey ik baar.

i have had a sprinter for 05 years and passed it to my cousin. its been 8 years and the engine is rock solid.

I am 100% agree with you but you missed the main point that is sudden increase in prices and that too insanely. I mean howcome a 800 Rs things available at 2500 Rs 4800 to 14000, itni jaldi tou bhai property ki value nahi berhti

Just think how can majority absorb this injustice, obviously they will now look to sale there bikes which result in further decrease in resale.

This happens when the companies don't make parts on localised units. Unfortunately, all cars and bikes manufacturers have been and are still importing so many parts resulting in overall increased price of the bike/car too. With the sudden decline in rupee value against dollar prices were to increase obviously. This is also the main reason why a similar bike/car in India is less than half of what we pay for it in Pakistan. In order to push the existing Japanese giants into ensuring localised manufacturing of parts government gave incentive to new entrants of reduced duties on import of parts so that monopoly of existing companies may come to an end. Lets hope some concrete step is taken for reduction of bike prices and parts as well.

The reason spares are so darn expensive is because Suzuki doesn't manufacture the bikes locally. They merely import the parts and do the assembling work locally. Apart from lights, tires, rims and other minor tidbits; the rest of the bike is basically imported hence spare prices will always be higher than YBR and CG which are almost 100% locally manufactured.

Ravi's so called "Piaggio" Storm suffered the same problem and hence the bike couldn't withstand the test of times and died off after only a few years of 'production' (or should I say 'import'?) run.

Pak Suzuki (And also Honda's CB150F) might suffer the same fate, who knows?

Despite of expensive parts, people will still use these bikes because the 70cc category bikes are like disposable bikes. they are cheap and come with cheap quality. when u buy their parts from market, the shop owner will tell that this the best quality parts and is Japanese quality but still u end up buying a local one. i remember i had a CD70 1992 Japanese model and i got its first engine overhaul in 2001 which happen due to oil pump issue. i used original parts and after that i sold the bike in 2010 and the engine was still strong. at that time i got the engine overhauled in 7k and if i have chosen the Chinese parts, it could have costed my 3.5k.

With the setup of local industry for 70cc category bikes in Pakistan, approx 22 companies were closed in china who were making the same bike parts. this is a major shift but as Pakistani public we are not "honest". we dont wanna produce quality parts and make max profit. as a buyer we dont wanna buy expensive good quality parts.

for those who dont wanna get their heads stuck with mechanic will surely buy bikes which last long just because the quality of parts used is good.

Moreover Suzuki and honda will pay a handsome amount to GOVT to make sure they sell their 110 & 150 category at prime prices. just like they do in Cars market, making it difficult for new entrants.
