Also to add further, some local Peugeot's are reaching the 75k km marker without any engine problems for now. The recommended belt change interval as per the manual is 160k-180k km if i remember correctly.

I have owned the car for 1 year now without any issues. My friend has it for 2 years without any issue.
So only time will tell how reliable the car really is. If you ask me if i regret getting this car then my answer would be a straight no. I love the drive and persona. Some things i wish they added and made better but then its the same for all global 2008’s.
I am not Peugeot's or luckys advocate. I was among the very first persons to take up the hydrolock issues with lucky and received calls directly from their head office to get a clarification on the issue.
Pure tech issue exists and is highlighted on multiple international sites and forums (lucky hasn't addressed it until now). So make your decision based on all the facts. More reliable Korean option exist so you can go for them if you want a really safe bet.

I hope you are inspecting and checking the timing belt yourself. The tool to check is cheap and even pak post puts a 100% duty is should still be less than 1000 total spent (from ali express)

Totally off topic question.
I recently purchased a 2008 allure as a secondary car (replaced my 2020 awd sportage)
My reason was simply the looks and the better milage.
I live in bahria town rawalpindi and generally travel from here to f/11 almost daily.
My daily driver has been a mg hs which Alhamdulilah has never given me any trouble.

After driving the 2008 for 2 weeks iv realised that the car horn is extremely pathetic, i came to these forums looking for a suggestion on which horns are good replacement for the default one.
But ran into this thread where people are worried about hydrolock and the timing belt degradation.

Can you advise me on what i can do to keep the car in top condition?
I drive very calmly and barely ever go above 2000 rpms (on all my cars)
And i only get the cars inspected and maintained at the dealerships.

So the favour i needed was
A. How can hyrdolocking be prevented.
B. How can the timingbelt be kept in decent condition.
C. Can the car horn be swapped easily?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

A. Yes, dont drive in standing water. I have seen all cars hydrolock (Honda's, Toyota's etc.). I drove my Peugeot in standing water when even LCs were standing on the side. So why do I say don't drive? Because that the only way to prevent.

B. Get the checking tool from ali express. it is only a few dollars. You dont want the full kit, just the timing belt check tool. (you can google "psa timing belt check tool" or "peugeot timing belt check tool" or "puretech timing belt check tool"). Use it. ALWAYS ALWAYS use the oil offered by the dealership. When you get the service done, take a picture of the oil can (and keep it with you). Buy one and top off the oil as needed. The engine normally burns an "x" amount of oil which is in the manual. Topping off is a good protective measure. Other than two, ask your service dealership to replace the belt the first sign of trouble. Dont wait for them to tell you, tell them.

How has the experience been coming from an AWD Sportage? This seems like a downgrade.

Interms of size it definitely is a downgrade,
Lack of break hold, electric seats, and auto tailgate are all a downgrade.
However the drive and the interior feels like a pretty substantial upgrade. The adas features, the digital 3d autometer are a nice upgrade
So its a apples and oranges comparison if you ask me.
The most noticeable downgrade is the size.
Other than that i am pretty happy with the purchase.

Ok, ill look up the tool.
I got the horn replaced with a dual horn from denso earlier today.
When you have cars like mg hs, a glory 580 pro and a sportage… you notice the difference in horn.

Since i live in a built up area we dont have that deep water issue. Ill keep in mind to avoid such circumstances.

It feels as if going from a 1970s enterprise to a 2000s discovery (if you follow star trek).
The interior of the Sportage is dated, it is roomy, but 70s roomy. The Peugeot is snug, + it feels like its up with the times. Both interior and exterior
If Lucky had an once of brain it could've dominated this segment.

Comfort wise how would you compare them?

Peugeots seats are very snug, have good bolsters and lumber support, though not adjustable, is great.
The sportage is like a Stonic a little better, but still like stonic.

Don’t always drive the cars calmly.

It’s one of the reasons catalytic converters get choked. Do give full gas pedal occasionally specially on highways.
