Picanto AT vs Alto AGS (any variant)

hello all,

Considering the fact that fuel mileage is not a concern for me, which is the best option?

Cultus after price increase is big NO, just left with 2 options Alto (AGS) or Picanto AT.

What is the resale vale of Picanto AT? How bad, lets say I have to keep it for 3 years.

I'm current owner of Alto VXR, I'm fed up of the build quality and the cabin noises, plus the doors noises when I go over the bumpy roads.

If you want quality then buy a JDM. Picanto is very heavy on fuel.

I cant avail that.. getting it via company policy.. roughly picanto will cost me around 2.1 million PKR via that.

The fuel average on a Alto in home and grocery drives isnt more then 13 kmpl too. So if picanto does 10/11 kmpl and average running is less then 500 kms a week it shouldn't be heavy on the pocket.

For longer journeys Alto can do 17/18, Cultus can do 15 to 17 kmpl. So If picanto manages 14/15 I wouldn't mind. (City drive signal free routes)

The car is very well built and definitely better then a Alto any day.

Or lets say any 660cc car any day.

I have kept 4 Altos, none returned more than 13-14 kmpl. The average counter usually would show +2, I guess that is just how it's programmed.

I have an Alto AGS, yet I am saying this. If you are getting a car with company incentives, then get a Picanto due to its comfort, build quality, safety, smooth gear shifts, fewer rattles, and better soundproofing. I have done many things to my Alto, including 3M tinting, Japanese leather seats with extra padding, a multimedia and subwoofer system, etc., but I can't get over the engine noise and cabin noise. On smoother roads it's much better, but comfort generally is weak. I have a Revo as well, and it's even more comfortable and super quiet, but let's not compare apples and oranges.
When fuel average is not a concern, there is no reason to get an Alto.
By the way, Alto is the fuel average king. I have never averaged below 20 on the meter, and currently mine is at 24 on the meter and super cheap on fuel. Planning to upgrade but i know that those cars wont be as feul effivient and thats a fact.

resale ka issue nahi hai to Picanto le lain bhai. Alto ki fuel avg. aor resale kafi acchi hai. Picanto ki resale bhi slow hai.. lekin build quality achhi hai

Im currently own Alto. Its not the car to keep for long even on Highways its not safe plus terrible noises it has due to lack of insulation.. i didn't felt any much difference sitting in Cultus too. 4.3 million PKR for same crap means Pak Suzuki Company knows how stupid ate the consumers here.

I think the reason these cars are selling is because there is no competition. No other local player in the local market. Japanese cars compete but are way more expensive and older, used, and have no warranty. The PKDMs have a warranty and have backup from dealerships and suppliers. Hence, their sales. What choice does the poor customer have when the alternative is low resale and unavailability of parts? Earlier I read a person bought a Nissan Days for 40 lakhs and sold it for 31.5. Alto sells like hotcakes. I think Alto can be a stepping ladder to better cars. You can use it while you save up for a better ride

A good Yaris hatch back comes around 42/44.

Cultus AGS is 46
Swift GL CVT is around 45
Picanto is 39

I have 3 Alto AGS at home and none of them averages less than 21kmpl in pure city drive in Lahore.
you cannot beat Alto in fuel average. Period.

Also you cannot compare Picanto with Alto, Picanto is ofcourse better at doing other stuff, its a higher segment car. btw Alto rear legroom is atleast 2 times more spacious than Picanto.

Picanto is a fuel guzzler and too cramped. reason its a flop. resale will be an issue.
better to avoid. build quality is not everything.

Do you mean people who buy Alto consider fuel economy and resale over their family's safety? You cannot fool thousands of people. There must be something which Alto offers and sadly Picanto doesnt that makes Alto so successful and Picanto a flop.
Feeling unsafe is a very subjective term.
Its a kei car for intra city use that has its limits. Its not designed for motorways/highways so if you expect it to behave like a bigger car on highways then youre in for disappointment. All 660cc cars struggle on highways.

You need to drive it on motorways and highways with caution.

Alto is a kei car never designed for highway rides. For those plying on highways frequently should not buy it.
Stop analyzing things without applying basic logic. You are judging a fish by how well it can climb a tree.

P.s Alto needs no defence. It sells a lot and everybody knows why.

Well I agree with most of the things that you've said but, Mehran sold well too, it was a cheap shit disposable car that we kept alive by jugars and cheap repairs. Considering this mantra, Alto is all of this plus not cheap to buy now. It probably sells because of the same analogy as Mehran, cheapest new car in the market with a good resale. I don't think half the awaam buying an Alto is concerned with safety or features.
