AoA,
My Picanto had an accident, back door on driver side is effected. There is a tear in outer skin and fairly large sized dent surrounding the tear (picture attached, dent is difficult to see in picture). Car is Insured from Adamjee. Plan to get work done from Kia Dealership in Lahore(Kia Samaa Jail Road, Lahore for now).
Short Question:
So need your opinion should I go for door replacement or just repair?
Long Background Story:
First time I needed to make a claim from Adamjee and frankly the whole experience has been disappointing. All my previous experiences with IGI were pretty smooth.
To start off the surveyor wasn't punctual at all, was supposed to contact me in 1 business hour took 3 & by then it was time of Friday Prayer break and when asked why it took 3 hours started giving lame excuses. Decided a time for next morning; when I called to confirm next morning he did not pick at first, 20 mins later informed me that he can't make it before mid-day because of Parent Teacher Meeting for his kids. I get it that family is most important, but least he could have informed me earlier. Anyways, even then he was easily late by 20-25 mins from 12pm time. Did not even bother mentioning the documents required in any of the calls, thankfully from my previous experience I knew the documents required and took photocopies with me.
Coming to actual survey, right from start he was trying to push me into getting the door repaired. I had concerns about amount of area that would require putty/filler work & repaint. Rather than answering my questions he was just trying one way or the other to push me to go with repair option. His 1st trick, it would take 10-15 days to even get approval for replacement door. I replied ok take your time I am in no rush. Then came out the next trick; "the new door won't come with 'dori'(sort of thin rubber seal placed over joint of outer skip and door frame) & this would give away that your door is replaced".
Tired of his shenanigans I went into the workshop area, and asked on of the senior technicians about his opinion, should I get the door replaced or repairs. His evaluation was that I should get it replaced, since when repairing this damage a size-able area of the door will have to be repainted and it won't pass the 'knock test' done by prospective buyers in future. For the 'dori' he said obviously we can not do same quality work as at plant this is applied by a machine. But the 'dori' can be applied by hand as well & it is possible to salvage it from your existing door.
So I went back and insisted that the door be replaced. Out-came his next trick, he said on top of depreciation you will have to pay extra due under-insurance clause. My bad I should have predicted inflation & devaluation at the start of the year and resultant increase in Car prices
. Anyways I still said you start the approval process, the under-insurance clause I will take up with your head office. In case of replacement I will need to pay 30-35K.
I am really pissed off at the Kia Supervisor, I mean the surveyor would try his best to save money for Adamjee(may be they even earn commission/bonus for this) but the Kia guy was supposed to tell me all this instead of the technician.
Anyways share your experiences and any advise/suggestions.
