Pick of the car (Vitz 2004) decreased after spark plugs changed

So on Saturday I went to the Toyota people in I-9 Islamabad, to get my usual oil, oil filter and air filter changed. I also told them to do some 'engine tuning'. I have a Vitz 2004, and I've driven it for almost 35k kms since I bought it 2 years ago. Anyway they also changed the spark plugs. The spark plugs cost me Rs. 1040. This is the first time these have been changed since this car came from Japan. Now since this visit my car's pick and race has decreased considerably. The engine is making more noise than usual when I push on the accelerator and is having trouble increasing speed. Anyone has any idea what could be wrong? Are the spark plugs to blame? :S

Without any doubts the problem have developed after change of spark plugs. - did they recommend a plug change or you choose it.

what else have they done, any adjustments thru the OBD system ( the car computer) like advance retard or fuel mixture settings?

If you have the old plugs.. take back to the Toyota tell them to change the plugs .. see if performance is back, Shove those NEW plugs to their asses.

i think the issue is wrong plugs. Try iridium

@capsat Nah man, they didn't do any computer settings, just the plugs change. And I didn't choose them, they just changed them on their own saying the car's plugs are near their end. I still have the old ones. I'll take them back tomorrow and tell them to change em.

@fizz What are these Iridium ones? Are they the ones recommended for Vitz 2004? Where can I get them?

Why do you go to Toyota when they dont even attach a scanner to it ? tell them that they have ruined your car and tell them that you want a refund against those mis-matched plugs.
Do you give your Auto a gear oil change every 10,000 kms ?

please be sure to use. k-16r-u11 Denso plugs. there avalible in Toyota Packing. but the plug code is mentioned. if u want ur car to perform best k-16r-u11 are the oem recomended plugs. secondly if u buy them localy they hardly cost u 150 for a plug.

Well done xarda bro well done get it changed asap, mechanics will tell you gear oil nahi kharab hota sir jee but in reality gear oil gets so ...... up in our local conditions that you cant even imagine, it is recommended for Auto transmission cars at 10,000kms and manual cars at 30,000kms, remember Gear may cost a lot when its ...... up !

the increment in engine oil is due to oil change because the used and dirty oil makes the sound of the engine smooth and the engine noise increases on changing the oil.someone correct me if i m wrong

Better safe than sorry, do you know what kind of gear oil our local companies put in them ?
And for a used car, change its gear oil as soon as you buy it, i have had bad experience with used cars.

your car your will change it @ 1,00,000 kms if you want, specially if its a Vario.

2005+ model Vitz comes with Iradiums originally check the old plugs and get the same for your car and if you already have the old ones install them back and check

inspect ur old plugs mite be iridiums.2ndly get fuelfilterchanged aswel if not done since car is imported.Rest beaware of fake chinese spark plugs

I put the old spark plugs back in again. The performance is better but not as good as before. (I have never got the ATF, fuel filter or gear oil changed. Driven it for around 35k kms.)

did u check the plug code, the old ones and the new ones.

please go for k-164-u11, denso, comes in Toyota packing, maximum for 150 / plug.

ur car wud perform at its best. these are orignal plugs.

even get ur throttle body cleaned! then see ur cars performance! it will be ZOOM ZOOM all the way and ur car fuel economy will improve too!

Well here lies the basic trouble. Friends never, never ask for tunning, these EFi cars do not require any if you are not facing any issues like missing or starting after investigating everything else.

Believe me I have an Xli and have been maintaining at 3S dealer, but always asked them not to touch the origninal tuning and after five years MashaAllah it is performing very well.

I changed spark plugs, when I went for CNG conversion in March 08 and it was the first time I used some part from open market as the guy was trusted and these plugs are performing very well after 20K kms.

Instead of buying spark plugs from 3S get them from open market from a reilable parts dealer adn follow the code mentioned in the stickers in the engine bay or the car's manual.

Also AT oil needs to be changed after 15K Kms, manual tranny oil changes 40K. I changed even power steering fluid which is basically AT fluid and break oil as well.

@ Xardas... I was also there on Saturday in black SE Saloon for 100 thousand maintenence. Among other things, they also changed the steering oil and guess what! my steering is heavier now. Got the car aligned afterwards from Wheels and Wheels, got tire pressure checked and got the car serviced. Steering is still heavy...

As for engine tuning, SE is also EFI and I have only changed its plugs. Never got tappets touched during its 100 thousand km run and the car is working perfect. So dont let mechanics open tappets unless u face pick up, starting or missing problems.
