Yes. I read some accounts where one of the two survivors has allegedly said that during the initial belly landing they heard a loud thud sound before the pilot aborted the landing and went for a second attempt.
The question is, why were they attempting a belly landing in the first place? If the landing gear had malfunctioned then they shouldve carried on with the belly landing.
According to the images on the internet of the second landing attempt you can see both engines have black residue underneath suggesting burn marks from the initial belly landing attempt. This could very well be the reason of engine failure. One image also shows successfully deployed landing gear on the second flight attempt. RAT being deployed also confirms engine failure.
But what was the reason of attempting belly landing in the first place? And when the plane had hit the ground why didnt they continue with it?
Being able to deploy landing gear on the second attempt means the landing gear was working. Did they forget to deploy the landing gear on the initial attempt? Or was it deployed but they didnt lock the gear so when it hit the ground it folded back up. Or did it really malfunctioned and they thought oh well let's try again maybe this time the landing gear would deploy?
