Well, the chinese one is providing "some sort of cool air", but the cabin never gets cold and chilly, like it used to before, when there wasn't any issue with my AC system. At night, it's a different story, it gets pretty chilly. So much so, that I don't really feel the need to increase the blower any higher than the low setting.
I recently had the pressure checked up, from two different places, between 12 and 1 pm. I believe the ambient temprature at the time was 35 Deg C, with fairly high humidity. Both high and low side pressures were just right. And let's say, your theory were true, that the system temprature was going out of range - it wouldn't be cooling so great at night, would it? Anytime after 5 pm, it gets cool within a minute or two, and after 5 mins, I rarely feel the need to keep the blower speed anywhere close to the medium setting. During the day, my patience is put to the test! After being parked in the sun for an hour, maybe even less, it takes over 10 mins to cool the cabin, and even then, it's nowhere as good as it is at night. It's as if I'm sitting in another car!
I believe mine is an unbranded one. I checked with another AC repair shop - they said the Chinese/Korean make is the cheapest and will not yield the same cooling efficiency as a Thai manufactured one (almost as good as the original part) or the one Honda recommends. As for the expansion valve, I don't know what brand or make he installed, but he said the evap. coil not working to it's full efficiency may be due to the expan/ valve and receiver dryer. The expansion valve he installed, pretty much looked like the one that was already fitted in the AC (stock). Didn't have any name or brand tag on it. The recv. dryer was a silver canister with a green "Formula" tag on it. So for the parts concerned here, I believe none of them are Sanden, Success or Denso!
So it seems there wasn't much of an issue with my expansion valve or receiver dryer. So it appears the culprit is the cheap evap. coil that's installed. I'm going to bite the bullet and get the Thai one installed as they say it is closer to Honda specs and standards. The genuine one is ridiculously priced, so I'm not bothered.
Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to read some more thoughts on how well the Thai manufactured coil performs. I was also hoping you were from Karachi, as that would allow you to perhaps, understand the issue with different quality evap. coils that are sold in the market.
