Please share your Honda Civic Reborn (hybrid) experience

Hi, Hope you all are well.
I currently own a cultus that was my first car, I've finally gathered money to buy a Reborn currently in 2021 the price is skyhigh around 17-19lacs.
I have 2 questions

1) Is this price worth it for a well maintained hybrid 10+ year old honda reborn ? or should I wait for market to fall

2) What is it like to own a reborn ? the thing that scares me is that I've heard people say it takes a lot of maintenance cost and its very heavy on the pocket is that true ? can you share some of your experience ? bear in mind I am thinking of buying a hybrid one that supposedly is kept good but you never know. Could you please share if this is a wise decision to buy in 2021.

Don't buy civic hybrid. Honda hybrid technology is not much reliable. I don't recommend to buy almost a decade old jdm Honda hybrid.

Even if the owner claims that he imported it from japan and its in top tier condition and is giving him a milage of 25 ?
& yes I my self am a bit hesitant on buying a decade old car.

Reborn Hybrids are not really popular for what they are. I was about to buy one and then refrained after a bit of research. Apparently their CVT and Battery tech is half cooked and plenty of issues are reported around IMA integration.
Imagine a CIVIC reborn engine bay with a 1.8L motor in it which makes it really crampy. Quite a challenge on its own to change even the serpentine belt. Now they wanted to throw in an Integrated Motor in it but couldn't find any space so they had to reduce the engine size. This made it seriously under powered. Combine this concoction with CVT and imagine if you have to drive up a hill one day...
I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

buy a normal reborn. its a good car. but yes, parts will be more expensive than cultus. but also much longer lasting.

stay away from the hybrid.

Thank you for the insight about the engine & yes I was doing some research and came upon almost the same data. + I live in ISB so going to the hilly areas is something frequent. But still 1300CC & you are saying that it feels still very underpowered?

1.8L is an appropriate size for Civic Reborn. The sports version even came in 2.0L
reduce the engine size to 1.3L, put additional weight of IMA and batteries and introduce CVT. You'd be literally sitting on gas pedal to make it climb.
BTW, i owned a couple of Reborns but never a Hybrid Reborn. Just sharing some feedback that i got.

Since you are a local reborn owner and seem to have good experience with it, I hope you won't mind another question (thankyou for your time in advance).

1) so suppose I do go with a local one, I would have to throw fuel economy out the window right ? maybe 8-9km/l at best ?
2) I've always heard that it is very very heavy on the maintenance side is that true ? does it have to be maintained a lot ? problems often occur ?

A 1500CC honda grade/Spike dont go beyond 12/15kmPL

I wonder how a big sedan with a poor 1.3L doing 25kmpL

Thank you for your suggestion seems like everyone is saying to stay far away from hybrid and I'll most likely be following your advice on this. My second question here would be" you mentioned parts are much more experience but longer-lasting" How often does the car spur up problems? I've heard several people say that they spend on maintenance almost every month that is a bit frightening.

I'm not a local rebon owner but can't imagine it to be much different.
1. Correct. 8-9km is what you are looking at.
2. It's not as reliable as a Toyota but certainly far more reliable than a suzuki. Most common problem that ive seen with it is the Noisy Power Steering, Leaking Power steering Hoses and AC Clutch Coils going bad.

So I have heard these as well but I was under the impression that this is a design flaw and only had to be repaired once. have you faced this more than once in the same car over the years?

well maintained engine is very robust. does not give problems.

however, there is a thread for reborn common problems. go through it.

hydraulic pumps and hoses are normal wear items. they wear out on every car after some time. and need replacement of seals.

I don't keep cars for too long, so can't say that i've replaced the same part more than once..
Keeping everything in mind, Civic FD (Reborn) is a safe buy and quite reliable in my books.

When buying reborn dont go for a cheap one with issues. Get a clean reborn and get it checked thoroughly. Manual ones give pretty good fuel efficiency and the prosmatec ones give you 8-9. Its a very comfortable and enjoyable car if its clean. Serpentine belts and power steering issues are more common than other cars but if resolved properly then wont bug you again and again. If you cant get a clean one get eagle eye civic which is also a very good car.

but it will be a huge upgrade from 1000cc to 1800cc
As per the owners review of reborn ( NON-HYBRID)
The maintaince cost was around 6000 PKR with Air filter and Cabin Filter.
Try to get a car which is not driven much and is taken care of and get it properly inspected by pakwheels
