BTW when I visited Awais traders for timing light. They had Gunson tachostrobe DC in new package. And when I searched about it on internet people say that they inherited it from their parents.

yes, a lot of stuff sold in tool shops in Pk are old - but they are still excellent. e.g. I have bought very old stock, rough finish armstrong branded tools from Pakistan which had been manufactured in the 60s I think.

They were extremely strong, Myself I bought a SUN branded timing light, which was from the 80s, but Its extremely well built - So much so I still use it and it has not let me down ever and its flash is so strong it can blind you.

• btw - I think the glass shops there like amjad etc are the oldest, they would know - there are 2 or 3 across the road too where nasir and central motors are.

You bought SUN or Gunson timing light ? How much ?

I paid Rs 3500/- in 1998 for the SUN timing gun - it came in a nice steel box. timing adjustment is a breeze with it because you can even see the flash in bright daylight.

I dont use it now as nearly all cars are coil over plug,

Its only brought out when I am working on an oldschool carburettor car.

Ok what to look for when buying a light ? I mean every timing light is good ? Or one should buy a mid-high range model?

the old british gunson lights are great too, in the event of a fight they can used a weapon too (if its the steel one)

I always like to buy the best tool for its purpose. e.g. on sockets that I will be subjecting 700 to 800 lb/ft of torque - nothing short of branded industrial stuff is used.

That's nice or you can say you have to use branded stuff because you are professional.
BTW for idle mixture adjustment on carb everyone recommends vaccum gauge. But I saw in service manual of my car that's says open it up by 2.5 turns. Means It will create highest vacuum at that point?

The only reason to buy good heavy duty stuff is to protect myself, e.g. if a socket splits and shatters at high load, the fragments shoot like bullets and can seriously injure you and even kill you in some cases.

the most expensive tools you own are your hands, a broken hand is far more expensive to repair at a hospital than a socket from a toolshop. Choose wisely.

Expired paste becomes watery.
If it's good,when you open tin,oil is on top and paste is settled ,just like when we open a plastic emulsion paint tin.
And yes it has to be kneaded, which they do with a small screw driver.
And in my experience when it used on threads ,gas or water will never ever leak from that joint,till the point the whole pipe gets rusted.

Visited a glass installer. He said daimm kieit is what you are asking about but it is used on rubber gasket less screen.

I tried to write the sound which he spoked while eating either paan or gutka.
Now will put silicone in the rubber gasket. As I managed to find a silicone which remain flexible.

Visited Bohrapir today. I was not able to find putty there. Also tried to search for butyl ribbon in plaza but no luck.
So I would use some good quality silicone which remians flexible. As it would behave same as Plumber Putty.
