Im pretty sure if one visits some oldschool hardware store and ask them for naram wala safeda or something used to seal drains and taps to old stainless basins - they can get it.

This was very common before the use of rubber gaskets on drain pipes.

It is available from sanitary shops( those shops who sell galvanised pipes for plumbing).as majority only deals in pvc and pprc pipes, they will not have it.

And it comes in this tin ,and cost 10 rupee.

does this remain soft? or dry after a while? - I remember two types of this type of putty, one dried to a rock and one remained soft and faintly smelled like kerosene

It remains soft,and yes it has kerosene oil in it.
Some time back you can get it in bigger tin.
But due to reduce usage it is available only in this format​ .
Mostly use by Sui gas guys to put on pipe threads,as they do not believe in teflon tape for gas works

Btw the sui gas guys are right because the only teflon tape that is used in gas connections is not sold in Pakistan in small hardware stores, its a yellow colour teflon infused tape that is pretty heavy duty and slightly bunches up in the treads.

yes, buy this safeda paste as mentioned above, and work it properly - meaning knead it quite a lot to make it consistent and then use it.

I need to apply it on rear windshield which has rubber gasket.

yes, its for that.

you will need to first assemble the glass with its rubber on it and a thin nylon rope in the lip of the gasket, the putty is knead into a rope then applied to the frame where the glass goes.

The glass it put on and the rope is then used to pull the rubber over the frame lip. the putty will squish and seal it tight.

yes it would - or ask the auto glass shops in Karachi, one of their old folks could tell you because it also used to come in a wax paper jalebi roll ready to use.
