Poor Acceleration, Bad Fuel Economy, Whats Wrong?

Hi Guys

Need your help to diagnose a problem in my car.

Car: Civic 2005 VTi Prosmatec (Automatic)
Fuel: Full Petrol
Milage: 150,000km

Problem:
1) Car seems to accelerate poorly. Seems like there is more engine noise and less acceleration.
2) Fuel Milage is less. 300km in full tank (so i guess 7-8km/L)
3) When i drive with a moderate/heavy foot, after stopping the car i sense slight burning smell (like rubber/carbon)
4) Car takes the 4th Gear till 100+ and doesnt shift (I dont know if this is normal, and when doea 5th kick in?).

Additional Info:
- Tappets adjusted around 12 months ago
- Engine oil Caltex 20w50 replaced every 2500km.
- Driven mostly on highway
- Cat converter not inspected
- Plugs changed 15 months ago.
- Idling is perfectly stable at 800rpm

Looking forward to getting some help.

P.S. I am in Karachi, good workshop reference would be appreciated too.

If this is a first owner vehicle, get your gear oil checked and replaced, 15 months is irrelevant for plugs, mileage is to be checked, this problem can also be your fuel filter. get it thoroughly checked as soon as possible, driving in this condition can lead to permanent damage

Get your engine timing adjusted also
Get throttle cleaned and fuel injectors cleaned also
Better pick leads to better mileage
U will notice visible result

Could be a clogged fuel filter
Or the fuel injectors need cleaning

in 15months its driven approx 20k KM.
and i bought it 15months ago

At that time i changed transmission oil with Honda ATF DW

Can you tell me what exact spot i can find the Fuel Filter in the car?

Yes idling is ok as u have mentioned at 800
Timing is a different thing
Have u got throttle cleaned
Throttle alone will increase the pick and fuel efficiency

Then what about the burning smell?
There could be one reason from all mentioned above by brothers, so inspect carefully. Or may be its due to weak clutch plate. Dont know about auto tranny so well. I request brother @Hassan1991 to look into this matter.

In Automatic Vehicles there is a filter in exhaust probably for emissions control, but I am not sure. Sometimes it gets choked and acceleration is reduced and drive feels heavy. Happened to my civic vti prosmatec 2011 last week, Honda took 3000 rupees to open and clean that filter. Now the car is working fine. Happened to my brother's Platz a few years ago and it was the same issue, once filter was cleaned everything became ok. Hope it helps.

It is however recommended to get the transmission oil and other general checks done at Honda service center. Though expensive, but these guys can diagnose properly.

When Transmission oil gets extremely hot it start causing burning smell same as burning of rubber. There are two causes of it either oil leakage causes the oil comes on hot engine parts or dirty transmission oil. It also causes jerks while shifting.
Get the transmission oil changed.
Get throttle body, injectors cleaned.
Change the air filter and plugs. Your got to go.

Inspect catalytic converter. Get it cleaned if choked.

Update:

• Got work done today.
  Cleaned throttle valve
  Cleaned Idle Air Control Valve
  Changed Plugs (old ones worn out).
  Cleaned the Injectors
  Checked Coils
  Checked all sensors and ran diagnostics

Car runs much better now.

AOA brother i m in rawalpindi and i also have the poor acceleration issues with my car just to explain.

1. car is heavy and produce more noise than acceleration*its lazy to be precise.
2. exhaust gives smell jst like something is burning(kachi smell not smell of petrol)
3. constant mild jerks or knoecking.
   4.hesitate to respond quicker when accelerator is pressed hard takes times and then goes better.
   5.on AC pick is too slow but when AC trips the car shoot like a rocket even faster than the pick that i have when AC is off.but just to mention car is slow even without AC.

i have done following things and get ripped off many times by mechanic with temporary solution.

1. TB cleaned,injectors cleaned and changed,plugs changed,MAP sensor changed,coils changed,middle dholki serviced,fuel filter and pump changed,tappets done. just to tell u fuel pump is changed to chinese one everytime and both new and used tried. after doing any of above things car become a rocket and delayed response is gone but only for few days and then problem re appear. cng is even taken off with wiring but no good result.

any suggestions and honest guy in rwp who can fix this. car is civic 2005 manual transmission with transmission oil never changed.

why are you using such a thick oil 20W50 ? 20W50 decrease fuel efficiency.
10w40 is best for 2005 civic.

As per 8th gen Civic User's Manual recommend 5-30 for auto transmission and 10-40 for manual transmission.

Darwaish autos, chor chowk, besides china hospital. Go there get it diagnosed by Sadiq ustaz, not the ones working there but Saddiq ustad, you won't be disappointed

dont use 20w50. you are killing it yourself
