Poor fuel consumption

I am using honda city 1998 and engine is swapped with D17a vtec but it gives me fuel economy of 7.8 on local and 9 on long
I try changing fuel injectors and MAP sensor but still no luck
Kindly suggest some solution
Also
Plz tell me if fuel economy has something to do with down pipe as i am still using the one i used in D15

I have the same car city 1.5 neo . swapped engine with available engine of 1.4. Previous one was 1.5. Fuel mileage was very poor. Replaced throttle body, plugs everything . one day i took it to mechanic and hook it to the scanner i noticed that ect sensor was showing constant tenperature at 58 degree which should be 80-90 at idle (when radiator fan kicked)but ect sensor showing 58 degree hence rich fuel mixture.replaced the ect sensor now mileage is very good.
Hook your car to scanner and ask mechanic to check any wrong data

If the temp sensor was not functioning properly, and it was showing low temperature, then radiator fan never switched on?

I live in faisalabad .however mechanic is very famous but he didn't even notice that ect sensor not showing correct data. He was working on IMA sensor to decrease fuel injection time. It was me who was caring of senser data and find the suspect of ect sensor

if more fuel was being injected, was there idling issues or was the car missing/bogging down? Or was the performance just fine, but only more fuel consumption?
Because its my understanding that if Air Fuel Ratio is not what its supposed to be, it will hamper the performance.
Also, was there any smoke from exhaust before changing the ECT sensor? Did the exhaust smell like raw fuel?
Sorry for these questions just trying to reach an understanding.

No there is no any sign of performance lag .usually rpm go up very little.
Its the cold start condition. Usually you will observe when you start the car at morning its idle is comparively high then few seconds later as temperature goes up idle become normal. Point is when ect is not showing good reading then idle can be errupted but no smoke n any other sign.

Does your car have oxygen sensor?look at engine bay and observe the exhaust manifold is there any wire going there?
If yes go to any computerized specialist he will rectify your issue

no signs of smoke, water come out from exhaust pipe when car is cold

Did you checked internet whatis fuel mileage of d17 engine who are using this engine?

This is also a fact higher cc will lead to lower fuel economy. I think that's why honda launched civic 1.5 again in 2016.
