Power Steering Oil Pump

My Santro's Power Steering Pump is producing noise. Can it be repaired?

Where can I find 2nd hand pump?

what kinda noise its producing? check for oil level.... and is it leaking oil? well u can get 2nd hand from Old spares market or ask for new pump but i am sure its gonna cost you much for it...!

yes, new pump is very costly. oil level is not dropping. Also steering is working fine. The heavy sound is just like of faulty bearing. But mechanics says this pumps doesn’t have any bearing. According to mechanic, power pump always give shrill sound and it is strange to produce such noise.

Btw for a small interval of time sound disappears.

this sound is produced on full steering turn and with slight sudden movements of steering.

Yeah...it depends...are u sure power steering pol pump is making that sound?

There is no change in sound when turning the steering.

I removed the belt and then started the car. Engine sound was very low without this belt. Also, when I rotated the pmp pully with my hand, I could feel roughness and tick tick sound coming out of it.

BTW Steering is very smooth and there is no problem except noise.

usually power pumps are not repairable OR it is advisable to get it changed. new power pump is very expensive but u can find a cheaper one in shershah. in rawalpindi it can be found in Mitho khan.

Yesterday I visited Mithu tha Ahata in Rawalpindi. I found only two shops having Santro Engines. both did not have power pumps. Although they shown me many other power steering pumps which they said can be installed in my car. Price of the pump was Rs. 2000/-.

Anyhow, I am still looking for some original pump. In due course of time, sound is disappearing for long time now but steering little bit heavier. I think pump has stopped working.

I want to ask whether is there any harm to steering assembly if I use may car without power pump till the time i find some solution.

Finally Zaheer Ustad at Babar Autos, behind Fire Brigade repaired the pump for Rs. 2000/- (Parts & Labour) with guarantee.

He changed bearing and oil seal.

Conclusion. Power Steering Pumps Can be Repaired.
