Prado 2004 Petrol 3.4 or LC 2003 4.7 Petrol?

Salam Everyone,

I am about to buy a good SUV, considering Prado TZ/G 2003 to 2005 3.4 liter petrol or Land Cruiser VX Limited/Cygnus 2003 4.7 liter petrol.

I want the suggestions as to which one should I buy. My drive includes ten kms daily to office and fortnightly visit to camping/fishing/picnic about 200 kms. At max I will be driving about 600 kms per month.

Please correct me if I am wrong, the said prado gives about 5-7 km/liter in city and the said LC gives around 4-5 kms/liter in city. I thin uni-chip may improve the performance and economy of this suv.

Please also mentioned other associated costs of maintaining these suvs, thank you.

If you can afford the fuel and have a big garage at home then why not go for Land cruiser preferably cygnus 4.7 with night vision. Even at 4km/ltr using RON 92 @72rupees / ltr your max fuel bill will be +/-11000 rupees for 600km / month usage.

Prado is also a good option but Prado and Land cruiser are 2 different leagues in SUV class. However prado offers good and easy resale compared to cygnus and Vx limited and its maintenance cost (parts perspective) is less compared to land cruiser.

As far as unichip is concerned i have personally used it on my 2006 Tx Ltd 2.7L 2TRFE engine prado. In my experience i did not notice any increase in fuel economy in city driving, only notice i saw was in highway driving 120km/hr motorway from 9.2 km/ltr to 9.6km/ltr which is very marginal. One thing i can say for sure is that noticeable pickup and acceleration is observed and its worth the money.

Thank for your nice reply. Since the price tag of both is almost the same, now comes 3 questions. One being size difference and the second is fuel efficiency. Yes, I can easily afford 12 to 15k fuel bill. Second being size difference, my running is low but Karachi traffic congestions are getting worst by days, which are the prefect destroyer of driving pleasure. The third one is the maintenance cost. What to expect in terms of maintenance costs?

Sir landcruiser cygnus is way better then prado tz any day in all ways. But its better to stay away from vx limited which is the diesel variant coz of higher mantainence and bad quality diesel over here.
But finding a clean ride would be a tough job and also there is a issue of fake documents in these suvs. So altogether it would be a gamble to buy a 12 -14 years old vehicle if it comes good your good to go with a lot of fun for years to come coz land cruisers are build to stand the beating for atleast 20 years.
But if ALLAH na kare you come across a bad vehicle or one wid fake documents then ur in big trouble.
If you cant find a clean and well mantained cygnus Then play it safe and get a brand new fortuner.

The good LC100 Cygnus gives you 7-8 Km/Ltr depends on ur foot. I always prefer LC over prado, as LC100 have good comfort level & easily maintainable vehicle. Prado as such is not much comfy.

Suspension parts almost cost same in LC100 or prado.

The grunt & acceleration is obviously of LC100.

The choice is upto you.

Dear Arslan,

Wanted to correct your opinion, VX limited is always a better option in all ways, it is low maintainence, the diesel version is rugged & reliable & powerful, there is no issue of diesel or fuel with this engine.

& @SherDil i will always recommend an amazon over VX Limited/Cygnus or Prado

Well there is no way a cruiser would do more then 5 to the ltr in karachi.
Even the latest 2.7ltr and 4.0ltr prados dosent do more then 6-7/ltr here.

Yes, while taking the trial, I has talks with several Prado and LC owners and they confined the fuel averages mentioned in my first post.

V8 Wud do around 6-7Km/ltr But a diesel version easily wud do 8-10 Km/Ltr

Well you may be rite, as i have seen many educated people using cheaper oils & parts then they complain about fuel avgs, I have seen many people they Use Delo Gold 20w50 in 1KD-FTV, which is a disaster, these new & hi-tech engines are not meant to driven on old school oils or mineral based oils. All these new engines are meant to be driven with Synthetic oils, always use iridium plugs which are specified for that engine, and you will get the good fuel avg. Its all about how u maintain it, i have an LC-80 amazon 1HD-FT 4.2 Diesel Turbo Manual, it gives 9-10Km/ltr in local, & am using Liqui Moly 10w40 Mos2 even though engine is 250k driven, but still running like a charm. Just my 2 cents

Sir i specificly said that these averages r for karachi and even @SherDil has confirmed these avareges via owners who r selling there rides.
However i dont have much knowledge about diesel variants and i think petrol once r better for city drives.
