Price Check for Prado 70 series

What should be a fair price for a 90-93 (cut dashboard) 2L Prado with Islamabad plates and how much more/less would a 1KZ (93-95) round dashboard one cost, Islamabad plates. For Islamabad registered versions PW's average would be of 1400-1600K and Lahore and Karachi registered versions average at around 1200-1400K.
What would be a fair price for an average condition because at the end of the day these would 21-26 year old vehicles. Attached is a pic for reference

Rahat, it all comes down to a few major things:

1. Condition
2. What engine
3. Registration/paperwork

1. Condition: Since these 20+ year old rigs, usually not well taken care of, you have to be careful what you decide to buy in the end and at what price. Do the usual checks of the overall mechanical condition (engine, gear, suspension). Then check the body for rust and chassis/frame (make sure it is not bent or damaged from a major roll-over or accident).

2. What Engine: I would never advise anyone to go for the 2L or 3L engines. They have a very common problem of head cracking and usually will breakdown on you. Also the power I feel is just not there. Go for the 1KZ-TE version. The turbo makes a big difference and later you can add intercooler, or find one with turbo intercooler 1KZ engine already. The power of the 1KZ never disappoints and is a very reliable engine.

3. Registration/paperwork: Again, I usually don't care what city it is registered in, but in this country it matters. This also effects the price, thanks to the auto dealers who have made this trend of using it as a selling point if a car is ISB/LHR/KHI registered etc.

In the end I would say go for a 1KZ turbo inter-cooler version, if your budget allows, go for a 1995 model. The price should not exceed 14-15 lakhs for one in really good condition. For average condition you might get one for around 11-1200k. Good luck and keep us posted.

@hayzin thank you for the detailed reply, I was planning to buy a 70 series for quite some time now. The plan was put off last year but I am back at again.
I face this same choice you mentioned at the end, I can but an OK condition rig for around 1200k mark and restore it in a budget of 100-150k but I want to go for a 1994-1995 model because I think I would be easier to sell 2 years down the line.
Secondly, how much difference would be in terms of token tax for Isl/Punjab number, an "ustaaz jee" said that Punjab tokens are more expensive. Have yet to verify for myself but I thought you would know better.
As for the 1KZ in the 70 series I dont think it came with a stock intercooler but they did add it in the 90 series. That will be a project for a later time

A normal condition 90-92 with minor touching and with a 2L is around 1million mark.
while 1KZ is around 1.2mil
I saw a 1995/2007 1KZ in immaculate conditon and total original sold for 1.5mil two months back.

This is what is confusing, there is a lot of inconsistency in the prices of these vehicles sold

I have upgraded with stock everything back to its original condition and still working on it. Mechanically everything can be replaced, what you need is a clean body.
1KZ is the engine to go for.
You wont find a clean car in the price range mentioned above.

Is your rig here in Abbottabad ??? If so I might have peeked a look, I have noticed nearly all 70 series rigs here I am searching for ideally a 1993-1994, original 1KZ, not swapped, green or grey, not red, Auto tranny is a must, no rust and no roll-over damage on pillars and no frame damage from accident. I have a rough figure of 1400K in my mind and can go higher depending on the car; and the search continues. All the models here in show rooms are not in an immaculate condition and I have seen one car on pakwheels but the owner is asking a lot for what its worth. I will take my time on this.

Do ask your contacts to look for an immaculate condition one from regions like sargodha and lahore etc.Islamabad market is much steep.
The one I saw being sold was a 1995/2007 original 1KZ,Isb registered and scratchless in Grey and silver two tone colour in sargodha.
We were there to buy a prado and had two options.One this 1995 and the other one a 1998 1KZ colarado.We went for the 98 and got it in 19.

I have seen two very fine specimens in Bahawalpur, lets see how it goes Bahawalpur is a little far away from Abbottabad but if its worth it, its just a day's drive

I came across a 70 series which was a 3 door 1987 model in white color. Although it was in mint condition but the engine was swapped to 3.4l V6 and the showroom was demanding 1.4 million.

Second option is buy some around 8 lacs and spend 8 on it.

Buy such an old jeep in reasonable condition still needs alot of work and $$$ to sort stuff

That's what I am thinking now, been looking at cars for over a month now and I haven't seen a single one that is satisfactory. Either they have engine swaps the quality of which is doubtful, or they have suspension, transmission, electrical problems all of which require at least 100k or more for the car to be sorted out. Another car is to keep the rig running in crap condition and enjoy the fact that you own a "paradoo" but that is not an option.

Thats the problem, the supposedly pristine condition vehicles for which owners dont budge from the 15lac figure also require a lot of work to be dependable and still at the end of the day its a 22 year old vehicle on which now the owner has invested close to quarter of two million or more. Im confused now
