Prius 2010 is having CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM error

In my case i got this message and after 10 km car completely ceased and it was not moving

A friends 2013 model prius shows this message.. if you reset the ecu..it goes away for a while..but after about 800kms it comes back.. the car is running with this error since a year now..but this error keeps on coming back afyer resetting..toyota 3s says to change battery..probably want to ripp him off.. anyone with a solution???

Im getting this error from the last few months and the cheapest solution ive come up with is to buy a OBD2 bluetooth module costing one or two thousand rs. I just clear the code and it takes like a minute to do that from the phone. Using OBD car doctor app along with it.

Otherwise according to mechanic i need to get the battery replaced which i dont want to do. Its a heavy cost. By doing this im still getting 18km/ltr which was 20 to 21 before this issue in winters. Lets see what happens in summers.

My issue started after the AC DC convertor failed to work. The car came to a halt and i had to buy a replacement there and then. The new one probably has worn out or done something to the battery.

inverter ( the synergy drive box in engine bay) also require coolant, and there is a primary 12 volt battery too, check both. The Prius Main battery pack is very rugged, carry a 5 year or 200,000 km warranty, obviously in Pakistan that warranty is void however if the odometer is not tampered hybrid battery failure is highly unlikely to happen.

My friend changed the battery! he wasnt keen in getting the cells replaced etc.. so he went ahead and bought a new battery.. i think he paid 120k for the battery..i dont think it was new.. probably less used one.

When this hybrid error happens, can we simply switch off the hybrid battery in some way and drive this car as a regular 1.8 litre car??

yes of the hybrid check appears it automatically transfer on engine and no longer shift on EV Mode so yes it can be used as a normal 1.8 engine car.

normal 1.8 engine car.

i doubt it for atkinson / otto cycle difference. Fuel consumption will be really high while acceleration will not be as responsive as usual auto transmission vehicle

Now adays mostly for sale Prius are with battery issues.

If you have changed the hybrid battery then you are good to go, if NOT and you bought the car in now adays like 2009-10-11 model.
Then brace your self for an error.

If the hybrid battery error came, only solution is to change the battery, if 4-5 cells are damaged, you can replace the cells but still some time the other cells cant pair with new cells and error came again after some time.
Now adays hybrid battery cost 1lak to 110 k.

When error came on screen iknow its like a mini heart attack to some owners (was for me) , then you dont listen to family what they are saying, you cant remember why you cane to grocery store, just one thing in mind, now what to do? Iknow its expensive battery and everyone cant afford it, but you have to do something.

For time solution you can remove the negative terminal of your 12v battery which is also in trunk of prius and beneath the rear seat of aqua for 2-3 mins. Plug in back and start and the error will be removed for some kms.
From obd scanner which is with electritions you can refresh the error for 200-600km (depending upon your current hybrid battery condition).

in a hypothetical situation for hybrids ..

a prius JDM 2012 registered 2015 is dead in 2019 after serving the 2nd owner for 16 months only. vehicle is dead and the cost of replacing battery pack from scrap dealer is 120000 for exchange with old comes with 7 days warranty only.

1. what shall be likely course of action ?? owner is clue less and does not want to spend 120000 for battery but willing to look for swap possibilities

2. which vehicle complete power pack can be swapped into Prius without surgery ? as in drop down complete front end front end axles etc etc

surely we know there will be plenty of electricals to connect with cluster that can be discussed later ..

please offer input within this thread ..

Bolt on swap is prius alpha battery pack.

owner is hesitant to spend over battery pack , what other options are available for hybrid dead prius.

wont be bolt on and the dashboard wont work and neither would the key card, the shifter console would be thrown away and the mechanical lever welded in center of car.

it will work (sort of) - just like idiot swapped cars in Pakistan.

It would be the same case again in money - about 150K, Its better to replace battery bank and drive on - the brake will fail soon after and it costs about 50K to 100K to fix in Prius.

Its an expensive to run car - owner should have known before purchase.

car will go through massive surgery .....and will loose all its value....

suggestion:: find a battery work in good price...install...make it work...sell it.....call it a day

no one is selling a battery bank from 2015 batch scrapped prius for under 150,000 without warranty so i suggested to take the prius in desert and burn it down
