Hey Cmisb!

I found your thread via google and watching our thread since month. I am mightily impressed about the restoration of you w115. It is amazing that you have patience to restore this really bad rusted car.

I restored in my Merc 220 D built in 1972 last year. Here are some pictures. Maybe the pictures give you the passion to finish your job!

Welcome to PakWheels.

Lovely restoration but can you please clarify a few points. I have never seen the rear bumper like your car has on a W115 220 D.
Could you please give some information on this type of bumper.
Also there is a small light on the front fender which was not standard, is this added on for EU regulations?

Small points that I noted were that the exhaust box is painted same color as the car ( I think the originals were silver ), the rubber gormets to hold the exhaust are also painted as is the tow hook.

cmisb has not been around for some time and we are all missing him.

Hello Alvis,

my 220D/8 is an italian export modell. Mercedes-Benz produced a special rear bumper for the Italian market because of the hugh Italian license plate for the rear of the car.

Even the front turn signals (only on the side) are special for the italian market. The American export modells have the turn lights at the side on the front and rear. The German modells and many other export modells have no turn lights at the side.

Please find attached a picture of an italian export modell. Then you can see what I am meaning:

and yes, you are right. Some details on my car were not perfectly like the painted exhaust system. The pictures were made directly after painting and reassembling. I fixed the details in the last month. Here are some of the latest pictures. In front of the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, vacation trip to Berlin and with his w124 friends in my garage.

I am really loving the older Mercedes-Benz cars and im really deeply impressed about cmisb's restoration. I hope he will return to this really cool forum to show us his results.

Details to my car: First registration in Torino, Italia on August 8th 1972. Color code DB 903 (my favourite DB Color), inside pergament code 065, engine 220 Diesel with 60 hp, power steering, color glas, manuel shift at the steering, front armrest, MB-Tex, Radio Becker

Really nice pictures, thanks for the info on the rear bumper and other points. At the moment I'm the proud owner of a 560 SEC, 1990. One of my all time favourites.

I would suggest that you also post pictures of your car in the Classic cars/Cool cars section in the VCCP thread. Many over in that section will love your car, and also we dont want to disturb this thread from its original topic and discussions on cmisb's 115.
