Project: Mazda RX-7 R1 1:24 sacle model (Tamiya)

Salaam.

This is a model build of a very famous sports car, the Mazda RX-7 R1 made by Tamiya , a very well know brand in the world of scale models and R/c models

i will show you how i made this model in step by step instruction , the model took me 2 weeks to complete ,i am sorry about the pictures as i did not had a good camera back , some pictures are out of focus .

before starting lets have a brief history about Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)

The third and final generation of the RX-7, FD (with FD3S for the JDM and JM1FD for the USA VIN), was an outright, no-compromise sports car by Japanese standards. It featured an aerodynamic, futuristic-looking body design (a testament to its near 11-year lifespan). The 13B-REW was the first-ever mass-produced sequential twin-turbocharger system to export from Japan, boosting power to 255 PS (188 kW; 252 hp) in 1993 and finally 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp) by the time production ended in Japan in 2002.

all the parts were primed using Tamiya white surface primer

by priming the body it enables you to see imperfection in the body and raised edges which you can see in the picture that i sanded down , and it also acts as a bite to the first layer of paint.

*the assembly of the Wankel rotary engine .

*painted the engine bay area in Mazda yellow

*the engine was placed in the engine bay area and also added engine wiring for detail.

*my work bench

*just a dry fit , to see if every thing fits a aligns well

*the body was painted Mazda yellow with an airbrush , to get a equal layers of paint.

*again a dry fit to see how the rims look.

now the interior of the RX-7, it was painted semi gloss black to replicate the interior fabric of the car.

*the dash board of the car

*adding more detail to the dash board by using micro paint brush and also added speedometer gauge decals

*now its time to add some interior carpeting, i chose red color because it gives a better color contrast against black color ,

*i used a material called felt paper to simulate the carpet like texture

*finally the interior is completed as shown in this picture .

*again i am focusing on the exterior of the car , note the paint in not smooth and as a orange peel effect , which will be polished out by wet sanding and the using rubbing compound .

*added panel lines on the body to simulate the features of the car

the taillights of RX-7, now this was a challenge , the entire rear taillight was transparent , i painted the the red and orange clear paint from the inside , and painted the gray clear paint from the out side to get the smoke effect of the taillight.

*masked the rear bumper to paint the defuser black

*masked the wind shield also known as clear parts in models , and painted black to resemble the window of the car

*slowly peeling off the masking tape and praying that there is no bleeding .

*thats how the clear parts looks after the masking tape is removed

*the wind shield is added on the body of the car . the car is nearly completed , only i need to add the rims and tires

*finally the model is completed , polished by rubbing compound and waxed to get the shine .
