same problem with '73 MKII, it starts vibrating around 60mph.. after increasing the speed more then 70mph, the vibration starts to decrease.. i have discussed the issue with a number of so-called mechanics but no one gave me satisfactory reason of the problem..

Our mechanics work on the principle of "HIT & TRIAL". And the worst part is they claim they are right and defend their judgment if you say that they are wrong.

On old cars such vibration can develp in gearbox as well if shafts are checked properly and found to be balanced and aligned properly.

In your car the lower control arm bushings can cause vibration. They might seem perfect to the eye but as the lower arm is under spring load - you cannot test it correctly with the wheels hanging. Ideally you have to compress the spring and then lever the bushings. If they move - they are shot.

the D shaft in your car has U joints on either end, if those have wear or are bad quality or are notchy they will cause vibration. Usually shake at 60 mph is worn arm bushings or a combo of things including worn ball joints, loose wheel bearings (this model toyota requires a specific torque like old VW beetles), bad bushings etc.

The real sad part is that MB driveshafts are balanced at the factory as one piece along with flex discs installed. It is a 2 piece shaft. When the mechanic forgets to mark the shafts before separating them he/she invites all sorts of pain combined. The shaft needs to be rebalanced to get it correct or do the remove and rotate flange one turn at a time and retest. (this takes an entire day or two of testing)

Tell me about it. Recently i have been doing hit an trial with my Lucida front auxiliary driveshaft alignment and i can feel what pain it can be if some idiot do it wrong while changing flex discs.

The MB driveline vibration will make you mad, and testing 1 rotation point a time on either end, then at the slip yoke spline (about 20 or so splines and then trying to shim the carrier to align the shaft and the best is when the mechanic forgets to test the shaft bushings with a set square (the mechanic can bang them up) - and then also conviniently forget to insert some axle grease into them and on the slip yoke and also tighten the slip yoke to 50 mile/lb torque.

Brother, a friend of mine is looking for the windscreen rubbers on which the windscreen is mounted. If you bought the new ones for your car, can you please confirm where did you get from? His car is in the middle of restoration and he had to put it on hold due to this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are some of them made in iran - beware of the cheaper qualities. The absolute best is OE rubber and when the person installs it - make sure the chrome trims are placed in first. MB trims are gripped by the rubber via a slit. It also needs to be sealed with a flexible putty like plumbers putty (try finding it)

Dont glue the glass in place and dont hammer the trims over the rubber. They wont fit.

Bro I got them from england. They are febi made. Its available in pindi too but the IRANI ones. If you want i can source them fr you from here..
